It's either the sun was punishing us for something we had done or it just liked to be mean.
The golden, almost blinding light of the sun was like flames to my skin as we trekked home with most of our classmates. We'll occasionally stop for a drink. The little gist they were having was making things hard.
If we were walking normally we would have gotten home by now.
"your papa" ebube said playfully punching this Alex guy who was as tall as a coconut tree.
"tell me you don't like judith" Alex said playfully.
"I don't like the girl ah" ebube said turning to look at me. He gave me a small smile and turned back to Alex.
" the girl wey dey buy you snacks.. Because dem don catch am Abi? " wale said laughing cute holes in form of dimples highlighting his cheeks.
"people are wicked o" John said laughing his both hands clutching his bag.
"e be like say u Don take something " ebube said fastening his pace.
"but that girl is something o, how would you go to principal office to steal" adunni said.
"I swear, de girl get mind" John said.
"no be ebube babe?... Why she no go get mind" Tobi spoke and - I was surprised he was even ease dropping on the conversation - everyone laughed.
We finally reached the house and I was starving. Sat on the couch next to my aunt was a woman with long brown hair and a healthy baby boy who was walking around the house.
My aunt smiled as we walked in and the lady turned to us and smiled. Jewelries sat on the table beside them.
"Amanda, these are my children and niece" my aunt said to the woman who wouldn't take her eyes of Tobi.
"She's a new customer that just arrived from Abuja" my aunt said to us this time.
"hello" she said and we greeted her and walked up to our rooms.
Adunni pulled her uniform and threw her bag on the floor. I did same and wrapped a towel around my body.
Adunni jumped on the bed and began to press her phone.
"my mummy will be bringing strangers all into the house, all in the name if business" adunni said as we could hear the child cry.
I laughed and walked towards the bathroom to bathe. The sun was too hot not to bathe.
"I swear.. I'm tired" adunni said to her phone laughing, she was having a 'video call ' with ayomikun in her underwear although she was lying on the bed, I'm very sure he could see the top of her breasts.
"I want to see you" ayo said over the phone and I rolled my eyes standing close to the bathroom door.
"you just saw me a couple of minutes ago" adunni said smiling like said they had used stretcher to stretch her face sideways.
The door burst open and Tobi Walked in majestically while I quickly went into the bathroom.
"you know get work ayo? adunni, asake come down, mummy's visitor is going" I could hear him say before walking out of the room.
After I had bathed and adunni had put on her clothes we went downstairs and the woman gave us 1k each. But not before complaining that Tobi used his left hand to collect her money and that it was rude.
______
The principal had been talking for hours and my legs were shaking already. It was the whole Judith matter all over again and it was becoming tiring. We all know the story Mr principal, it happened in our class.
"That is the highest level of indiscipline, walking to my hown hovvice to steal. If my teachers weren't smart enough to notice her walk in my hovvice, that's how I'll have lost my money completely" he said proudly with a drop dead Yoruba accent while touching his fairly used Okrika suit.
"This one Don dey craze?" a student -that was clearly in my class- said.
"how all this rubbish Kon concern me now" Elvis spoke scratching his head.
"so she would be suspended for two weeks. I won't fail to kick any of you hout if you cause any nuisanced thing in this school." he spoke again and half the assembly roared in laughter.
"maka why?" a fair girl beside me spoke and I turned to look at her. Our eyes met and she smiled.
"new girl, how are you?..I'm Chiharmaka but they call me armhaka" she said in a forced American accent.
"hi...I'm Asake"I said with a forced smile.
"seniors marching in song" a female teacher said and immediately 'parents listen to your children ' echoed through the school.
"oya art students let's have government" the slim government teacher who was a corps member said and half the class stood up to their various departments.
The government teacher smiled, he was a young man probably in his twenties. He reminded me of Davido( the Nigerian artist) and I liked him.
"Oya harmony clean the board na" he spoke and faith's friend, the fair chubby girl stood up to wipe the board.
"your class is a revision class but since last term you didn't complete the international organizations, I'll just take you through it" he said, smiled then turned around to write international organizations on the board.
"I'm Mr osas" he said to no one in particular.
"don't we know already?" Alex cried out.
"was i talking to you?, I was talking to the new student" he said staring at me and I nodded.
