From a recycled story :)
Lyra opened the door to her and her mother's home. It was a small house, modest. Just like like the rest of the town it had gray wallpaper and its roof was flat. The inside was just as plain. Mellow, beige wallpaper adorned the walls and the lights weren't fancy. Huge brown curtains hid the windows from view. Lyra hated those curtains. Lyra set the heavy bag of milk down in front of the door. 'I'm back!" She called out.
"Lyra you know not to yell in the house." The voice belonged to Lyra's mother.
"Now come you're missing lunch."
