Harvey's POV:

"you're telling me that your way of getting Hazel's attention is to ignore her?" my friend Madi asks me.
"Yup" I nod.
"girls hate that" she tells me. "just tell her you like her"
"we decided it'd be better to be friends after homecoming" I tell her.
"who decided?" Madi asks.
"I mean, I was the one who brought it up I guess" I admit.
"so you decided it'd be better if you were friends?" She asks.
"well we talked about it together" I shrug.
"is that her texting you now?" She asks.
"yeah" I nod.
"you gonna answer her?" Madi asks.
"not until later, probably nothing" I answer.
"well I'm gonna go to my girlfriend's house now, go see your girl too" Madi tells me, walking off.
"See ya Madi" I say, walking over to my car.
Instead of going to visit Hazel, I went and got food before driving home.
Once I got home and parked my car I noticed Max's car lights were on.
I get out of my car and walked over to his to make sure he didn't leave them on by accident.
"you always got me Hazel" I hear Max say.
Hazel's there?
"thanks max" Hazel replies.
"mhm" I hear Max laugh a little, Hazel laughing with him.
"let's head inside, yeah?" Max says after a second.
"yeah" Hazel replies and I quickly walk inside through the back door.
I sat down on the couch and pulled my phone out as the front door was opening.
"Oh hey Harv" Max says as they walked in.
"Hey Max, Hey Hazel" I reply, letting my thumb scroll over random posts on Instagram.
"you've been on your phone?" Hazel asks.
"yeah" I shrug a little. "I've just been chilling"
"okay" she looked a little upset.
"you alright?" Max asks her.
"yeah" she nods. "can we go upstairs and write now?"
"write?" I raise an eyebrow.
"uh don't worry about it" Hazel says.
"yeah it's not a big deal" Max shrugs.
"so we'll be upstairs" Hazel says, grabbing Max's hand before running upstairs.
what the hell?
After a few minutes I got up and walked upstairs.
"so I'd strum a, a, a, b, c, a, a, a?" I hear Hazel say as a guitar lightly plays.
"yeah, that sounds pretty good" Max replies.
I peek my head around the corner to see Max and Hazel sitting on the floor. Hazel had a guitar and Max sat next to her looking at a notebook.
"Can you sing the first verse?" Max asks her.
"yeah" she nods, starting to strum the guitar.
"wait a minute, let me finish. I know you don't care, but can you listen?" Hazel lightly sings.
"I came committed, guess I overdid it. Wore my heart out on a chain around my neck, but now it's missing hm" she sings, strumming the guitar as she looked at her notebook.
(Those lyrics were from Billie Eilish's song: "8")
"that was really good" Max smiles a little at her.
"thanks Max" she smiles a little. "what do you have?"
"I wrote a little bit on this song that Harvey and I are working on" Max tells her.
"Which one?" She asks.
"Nervous" Max replies, pulling out his notebook.
"Let me hear it then" Hazel leans back, looking at Max.
"It's been six months three days, and nothing has changed" Max strums the guitar.
"Every second feels like the first time you're saying my name. You don't know what you do, and girl it ain't fair. Laughing in slow motion, but you've got me caught in a stare" Max sings.
"that's really good" Hazel nods. "why so specific with the six months and three days?"
I got bored and walked off, I didn't want to listen to more of their conversation.

Max's POV:

"that's really good" Hazel nods. "why so specific with the six months and three days?"
why don't I just tell her? it's been six months since I realized I like her.
"uh just a random amount of time" I lie.
"okay" she chuckles, closing her notebook. "but seriously is there anything you think I should change in my song so far?" she asks me.
"nope" I shake my head no. "it's perfect so far"
"thanks" she smiles a little. "can I talk to you about Harvey?" her expression changes.
"of course" I nod, leaning back against the frame of my bed.
"does he hate me?" she asks me.
"no one could ever hate you" I tell her.
"people definitely hate me" she chuckles. "but really, do you think he still even wants to be my friend?" she asks me.
"he's going–" I start.
"he's going through a weird time, I know you've said that a lot" she lets out a little laugh. "but do you think I still have a shot with him?" she asks.
"I really don't know" I tell her honestly.
"because I got all these feelings for him and then homecoming happened and he said we should just be friends after, but I fell for him and now it just hurts" she rambles a little.
"you'll find someone who cares about you, whether it be Harvey or someone else" I tell her.
"I'm just scared" she frowns. "I just wanna be happy"
"you're not happy?" I ask her.
"I'm not happy, but I'm not sad" she shrugs. "I just feel empty a lot and it sucks living a numb life" she explains. "that's why I do stupid things sometimes"
"awe Hazel" I felt bad, I just wanted her to be happy.
"don't feel bad" she chuckles. "I'm fine"
"let's do something fun then" I tell her. "we can go camping or something" I suggest.
"sleeping on the floor in the woods?" she scrunches her nose a bit. "not camping"
I let out a little laugh. "okay, then what would you want to do?" I ask.
"can we have a party?" she asks. "I just want to get drunk and forget about Harvey for a few hours" she admits.
"I thought you didn't like getting drunk?" I ask.
"I usually don't" she tells me. "but I trust you, I know you won't let me do something too stupid" she says.
"I won't" I nod.
"so party?" she smiles a little.
"yeah we'll throw a party" I nod.
