January passed quickly.
Dean's schedule consisted of school, dance, and one date with Castiel a week.
Next thing Dean knew, it was January 29th and he was downing a pill to calm his fear of airplanes as the plane took off. He relaxed back into the seat, clenching his jaw, trying to will the pill to work quickly.
When Dean landed, the first thing he did was call Bobby to tell him he made it safely. His body was still numb from the pill, so he slowly walked toward the doors as Bobby told him who to look for.
After Bobby finished talking, Dean stared out over the crowd with his phone in his hand. He didn't even look as he typed in Castiel's number, knowing Cas would be in class anyway. The phone pressed to his ear rang a few times before a voice answered.
"Mr. Winchester?" Mrs. Visyak asked, and Dean could hear people talking in the background.
"Yeah," Dean said slowly, biting his lip. He coughed slightly. "Sorry for interrupting, I didn't think Castiel's ringer was on."
"It's perfectly fine, but he's looking at me hopefully..." There was a short rustling and he heard the teacher saying, "It is Dean. He's fine, Castiel. You can call him back during passing period."
"Fine," Castiel's voice sighed, and Dean smiled. There was another rustling and Mrs. Visyak started speaking what sounded like a lesson again. "I'll call you back in twenty minutes," Castiel whispered into the phone, obviously acting like he wasn't on the phone. "Promise."
There was a click and the line cut. Dean laughed softly to himself, looking around for the person he was going to be staying with.
Dean dropped onto the guest bed at Rufus's house, exhausted again. He didn't understand how he was so tired after his nap on the plane, but he was and he had a long day ahead of him tomorrow.
When Cas had called earlier, he'd had to leave quickly after. He promised to call during lunch and after school, though, so Dean was forcing himself to stay awake. He needed to sleep at night anyway.
His phone rang.
"Hey," Castiel said on the line, smile obvious in his voice.
"Hey," Dean smiled, laying back. "I'm so tired."
"That pill knocks you out, doesn't it?"
"Yeah," Dean mumbled. "It does. I need it though."
"I can tell. You were freaked out when you even found out that you were going to be on the plane. It took so much to calm you down."
"Yeah..." Dean sighed, wiping his eyes. "I miss you already."
"I miss you too," Castiel sighed. "I wish I could have gone with you."
"No, you need to be at school." Dean smiled. "We can do that some other time. Raise up enough money to go on a trip."
"That sounds like heaven," Cas laughed. "I look forward to it."
"I do too. Maybe I can go without the pill if you're there."
"Maybe..." Various voices passed through the line, and Dean smiled again.
"You're standing outside, aren't you?"
"Maybe."
"You should go inside. I don't want you getting sick."
"I'm fine, Dean."
"Whatever," was said with a grin.
The smile stayed after Castiel had to hang up, and Rufus asked Dean why he was so smiley. Dean just shook his head in response. "Relationships."
