A/N - Shit. It's been a while hasn't it? I promise that I am still planning on finishing this book and proceeding with the next one!
"HYDRA doesn't like leaks", Sitwell said as they drove down the freeway.
"Then why don't you try sticking a cork in it?" Sam asked.
Madison snorted. She could get along with this guy.
"Insight's launching in 16 hours", Natasha told them, "We're cutting it a little bit close here".
"What's the matter, Tash? Don't work well on a deadline?" Madison teased. Natasha smiled at her daughter.
"I know. We use him to bypass the DNA scans and access the helicarriers directly", Steve said.
"Um, is no one gonna bring up what happened the last time we were on a helicarriers?" Madison remarked.
"Are you crazy?" Sitwell asked, "That is a terrible, terrible idea".
There was a loud thud and Sitwell was pulled out of the window and thrown over the side of the freeway.
"Shit!" Madison yelled.
The man on top of the car started firing bullets as Natasha climbed into the front seat, on top of Steve. Madison pulled out a gun and started firing back.
Sam slammed on the break and the man went flying off the car, using his metal arm to stop himself.
"Um, I'm guessing that's the Winter Soldier?" Madison asked.
Cars swerved around them until one slammed into the back of the car, throwing Madison forward. Steve caught her before she could go through the windshield.
Sam sped the car up, intending on hitting the Winter Solider. He landed on top of the car again as Sam tried to throw him off again.
"Baby Bird! Gun!" Natasha yelled.
Madison fumbled around for it and put it in Natasha's hand.
The Winter Solider reached through the windshield and pulled out the steering wheel.
"Shit!" Sam yelled as Natasha started shooting at the Winter Soldier.
The car behind them rammed them again.
"Hang on!" Steve yelled as he slammed his body against the door.
The door broke off, but Madison didn't have enough time to grab onto Steve. The car rolled with Madison in it. She grabbed onto the bottom of the back seat and hung on for dear life. Please don't let me die. Madison found herself outside the car, still huddled in a ball.
"Madison!" Natasha yelled, running to her.
Madison was panting and her eyes were blown wide. What the hell was going on? She was just in the car.
"You teleported", Natasha told her.
"But I don't know how!"
A man got out a van and handed the Winter Soldier a large gun. He fired it and it hit Steve's shield, launching him off the freeway. Men started firing at them.
Madison looked down at her hands. "Come on. Come on", she begged, "Do something!"
Natasha pulled Madison into her as she started shooting.
Madison was useless. She needed her bow or something. She felt her bow materialize in her hands and the quiver appeared on her back.
"I'll cover you", Natasha said.
Madison nodded and jumped up on the hood of the car and started firing arrows.
Natasha took off running, leading the shooters away as the Winter Soldier stalked towards Madison.
Madison took off running in the direction of Natasha. She let out a shrill whistle and heard it echo below her. Madison jumped off the side of the bridge and used a grappling hook arrow to land safely on the ground.
The Winter Soldier fired at them from the bridge as they took cover behind a large van.
"Come on", Natasha said as he continued the shoot at them.
They ran down the block and then hid behind a car, waiting for the Winter Soldier to come after them.
Natasha recorded a voice memo and then set it on the ground next to the car. They took cover behind another one and as soon as he walked by, Natasha pounced on him.
The Winter Soldier slammed her up against a car before throwing her into another one as he picked up his gun.
Natasha threw an electrical disc, locking his metal arm and preventing him from using it. "Now, Baby Bird!" she yelled.
Madison ran at him with a knife in her hand as Natasha ran off, trying to get people out of the line of fire. She aimed for his neck, but the Winter Soldier was too fast.
He grabbed her wrist and twisted it, causing her to cry out and drop the knife. His good hand went around her neck and lifted her off the ground.
Madison scratched and clawed at his arm, but he showed no sign of pain. She grabbed onto his wrist and something odd happened. She saw a memory.
Steve was skinny, like before the serum and was getting beat up. A young man rushed in and saved the day.
"I had him on the ropes", Steve told him.
"I know you did", the man said.
It was Bucky. Steve's best friend. He was the Winter Soldier. So then why didn't he remember Steve? Why was he doing this?
Madison was suddenly on the ground with Bucky standing over her. She rubbed her burning throat as Bucky stalked away from her, presumably going after Natasha. Madison stood up and collected her weapons. She needed to find Steve and Natasha and quickly. When she found them, Steve was fighting with Bucky.
"Help Natasha!" Steve yelled.
Madison wanted to tell him who the Winter Soldier was, but she figured he'd find out soon enough. "Natasha!" Madison yelled, running to her side.
"I'm fine", Natasha told her.
Madison hid behind the car as she watched Steve and Bucky fight.
Steve pulled off his mask and Bucky looked straight at him. "Bucky?" Steve asked.
"Who the hell is Bucky?" Bucky asked.
Oh. Well that explained a lot.
