A/N - Brace yourselves my friends. This is the second to last chapter and if you're not crying by the end of it, you'll be crying tomorrow.

The computers started going off saying that the helicarriers were launching.

"Shit", Madison cursed. Everyone she loved and cared about was probably going to be killed by those things, including herself. "You guys gotta go. Now", Madison told Steve and Sam.

"Madison...I..." Steve said.

"Go!"

They ran out of the control room.

"What do we do?" Madison asked Hill.

"Hope and pray they replace the chips with ours".

"Hey Cap, I found those bad guys you were talking about", they heard Sam say over the earpiece.

"You okay?" Steve asked.

"I'm not dead yet".

"Falcon, status?" Hill asked.

"Engaging".

"Be careful", Madison told him.

"Oh you're not gonna get rid of me that easily, princess".

They could hear gunshots through the ear piece.

"All right, Cap. I'm in", Sam said.

"Eight minutes, Cap", Hill told Steve.

"Working on it".

"No pressure or anything, but I don't really feel like being killed today", Madison told him.

"Sometimes Madison, that mouth of yours..."

"You know you love it, big boy".

"Oh god. Stop with the mushy crap before I puke", Sam groaned.

"Alpha lock", Steve told them.

"One down, two to go", Madison whispered to herself.

"Falcon, where are you now?" Hill asked.

"I had to take a detour", he yelled over the com. After a minute or so, they heard, "I'm in. Bravo lock".

"Two down, one to go", Hill told them.

There was a possibility that they could do this.

"C'mon guys. You can do this", Madison told Steve and Sam.

"Charlie carrier is 45 degrees off the port bow", Hill said, as the security camera showed two men entering the hallway.

Madison notched an arrow as Hill scooted away from the desk.

Two armed men entered the control room.

Hill shot one and Madison shot the other. "Six minutes", Hill told them, walking back up to the controls.

"Hey, Sam, gonna need a ride", Steve said.

"Roger. Let me know when you're ready".

"I just did!"

Madison could hear rushing wind in the ear piece like Steve was falling. "Sam, you let him die and I will kill you. Is that clear?" Madison asked.

"Crystal, Miss America". They heard Sam shout Steve's name and then a struggle.

"Guys, what's going on?" Madison asked as she heard gunshots.

"Cap. Cap, come in. You okay?" Sam asked.

"Yeah, I'm here. I'm still on the helicarrier. Where are you?"

"I'm grounded. The suit's down. Sorry, Cap".

"Don't worry. I got it".

"Looks like it's up to you, big boy", Madison told him.

"Isn't it always?" he asked.

Security footage popped up showing Rumlow going up a stairwell. Most of the building was empty due to people evacuating.

"Falcon?" Hill said.

"Yeah".

"Rumlow's headed for the Council".

"I'm on it".

"Come on, come on", Madison murmured as she and Hill watched the countdown.

"We're running out of time", Hill said.

"Isn't there any other way to stop the helicarrier? There's gotta be another way".

"One minute", Hill told Steve.

"Steve, come on!"

"Thirty seconds, Cap".

"Stand by", Steve groaned.

"Steve! Are you hurt?" Madison asked him, "STEVE!"

Hill and Madison watched helplessly as the Insight satellites started picking out targets.

"Charlie, lock", Steve gasped over the com.

Madison breathed a sigh of relief. "Now get off that helicarrier so you can tell me you love me", Madison said.

Hill programed the helicarriers so that they would fire on each other instead.

"Fire now", Steve told them.

"But Steve..." Hill said.

"Do it!"

"Steve, no!" Madison protested.

"Do it now!"

"Steve, please!" Madison begged, tears falling from her eyes, "Don't do this!"

"I love you Madison Barton", he said as Hill pressed the button.

Madison rushed to the window in time to see the helicarriers burst into smoke and flames. "No!"

"You'll be okay, Madison", she heard Steve say.

She shook her head. "No. Not without you".

"This was never going to work out in the end anyway".

"Steve, what are you...?"

"It was always going to be like this. But please know that I did love you".

"I love you Steve Rogers", Madison said as she watched the helicarriers crash into the lake. She finally understood how her father felt when her mother died. It felt like her entire world was ending and she was powerless. All she could do was stand by and watch.

Are we all still breathing? Or have I killed you yet? Last chapter will go up tomorrow and then we'll move straight into Age of Ultron (a personal favorite of mine).
