A/N - I can't believe I've almost finished this book! Then we can move onto my favorite Avengers film and I've got so many twists and turns planned. You guys are totally not ready for this!

Madison couldn't tell you how long was outside for. Only that it was long enough for the tears she was crying to dry on her face.

Natasha came outside and stood next to her.

Madison quickly wiped her face.

Natasha said nothing as she wrapped her arms around the young woman. "Come inside", she said.

Madison followed Natasha inside where Fury and Hill were explaining what they needed to do. Madison stood next to Hill, Steve noticing how she put distance between them.

"Okay, once the helicarriers reach 3,000 feet, they'll triangulate with Insight satellites, becoming fully weaponized", Hill explained.

"We need to breach those carriers and replace their targeting blades with our own", Fury added.

"One or two won't cut it. We need to link all three carriers for this to work, because if even one of those ships remains operational, a whole lot of people are gonna die".

"We have to assume everyone aboard those carriers is HYDRA".

How many of those agents would be people they knew?

"We have to get past them, insert these server blades. And maybe, just maybe we can salvage what's left..."

Steve cut Fury off. "We're not salvaging anything. We're not just taking down the carriers, Nick. We're taking down SHIELD".

"SHIELD had nothing to do with this".

"You gave me this mission. This is how it ends".

It was moments like this that Madison remembered why she admired Steve in the first place. His strong sense of justice. His willingness to put everything on the line to do the right thing.

"SHIELD's been compromised. You said so yourself. HYDRA grew right under your nose and nobody noticed".

"Why do you think we're meeting in this cave? I noticed", Fury said.

"How many paid the price before you did?"

"Look, I didn't know about Barnes".

"Even if you, would you have told me? Or would you have compartmentalized that too? SHIELD, HYDRA, it all goes".

"He's right", Hill agreed.

Fury looked at Madison and Natasha.

"If SHIELD needs to be taken down in order to take down HYDRA, then I'm on board", Madison told him.

Fury looked at Sam.

"Don't look at me. I do what he does, just slower", Sam told him.

"Well, it looks like you're giving the orders now, Captain".

Hill led Madison and Natasha to where they kept the weapons and uniforms.

As part of the plan, Natasha was going to be disguised as Councilwoman Hawley.

Madison slipped on a uniform, much like the one Hill wore. She looked down at her hands, willing her bow and dagger to appear. Her bow materialized in her hand and her quiver appeared on her back. Her gun and her dagger appeared in the holsters on her body.

"Well that's new", Hill said.

"Yeah, still kinda figuring it out", Madison told her.

Before infiltrating the Triskelion, they stopped off at the Smithsonian.

Steve came out in his WWII uniform. Now this was the Captain America of her childhood.

"Madison..." Steve said.

She placed a finger on his lips. "You know the rules", she told him, "You don't get to say it until all this is over".

"Then let me say this. When we get to SHIELD, you're not going anywhere near those helicarriers".

Madison opened her mouth to object.

"Please. The last time you went into a battle, you were in a coma for three months".

"But I'm stronger now..."

"Sam and I can handle it. I need you to cover Hill".

"Fine".

Steve gently gripped the back of her head and pulled her into a kiss.

When they pulled away, Madison smiled. "Good luck, big boy", she told him.

Sam, Steve, Hill, and Madison came out of the woods across the lake from Triskelion.

Natasha was already inside with Pierce.

They made it to the control room and quickly took over.

"Excuse us", Steve said politely.

The man in front of them simply raised his hands in surrender and backed away, letting them in. It didn't help that he had two guns and a bow trained on him.

Steve stepped up to the P.A. system and pressed the button.

"Attention all SHIELD agents, this is Steve Rogers. You've heard a lot about me over the last few days. Some of you were even ordered to hunt me down. But I think it's time you know the truth. SHIELD is not what we thought it was. It's been taken over by HYDRA. Alexander Pierce is their leader. The STRIKE and Insight crew are HYDRA as well. I don't know how many more, but I know they're in the building. They could be standing right next to you. They almost have what they want. Absolute control. They shot Nick Fury. And it won't end there. If you launch those helicarriers today, HYDRA will be able to kill anyone that stands in their way. Unless we stop them. I know I'm asking a lot. But the price of freedom is high. It always has been. And it's a price I'm willing to pay. And if I'm the only one, then so be it. But I'm willing to bet I'm not".

Steve pressed the button again and stepped back.

Madison's heart was beating out of her chest and she wanted to clap. She also felt like she wanted to kick someone's ass now.

"Did you write that down first, or was it off the top of your head?" Sam asked him.

Madison was going to ask the exact same thing.

I just wrote the last chapter of this fic, BTW. And I'm legit crying. Ya'll are definitely not ready for this.
