“Mommy? Where are you going mommy?” the little girl said in a small voice.

“No where. Go back to sleep.” the woman whispered , looking down at the little girl. Her blue eyes were dim and her light brown hair was tied in a tight bun.

“But it’s Friday, and we haven’t had dinner yet!” the little girl exclaimed, a tiny frown on her face.

“Whoops! I totally forgot!” the woman put a smile on her face…

But I know something is wrong. Who are these people? Where am I? I can tell the little girl can see me. Her bright violet eyes just watch me. Her long dark hair flowing down her back, a dimple on her cheek when she smiles, and the purple dress that matches her eyes. I have seen this girl before.

I opened my eyes to a white plastered ceiling above me. It was just a dream. It seemed so clear and vivid, almost like a memory. I can see that my thick blanket had been thrown off the bed, and my long, dark hair in a giant knot. I plop back down on the bed. It’s the same dream. I’ve had that dream every night ever since I got into the system. Five more years, and then I’m free.

"Juliana!" I can hear Margaret yelling down stairs, "Get down here, you have an appointment today!"

I sighed as I got up and got dressed. Brushing out the giant tangle of hair, while my violet eyes try to get used to the bright sunlight flowing in through the window.

"Juliana!" Margaret called again. "JULIANA!"

"I'm right here." I couldn't help the sarcasm in my voice. Standing at the top of the stairs I looked down at Margaret to the side of them.

"Well why didn't you say anything?" Margaret glared at me with beady eyes

"One, I was busy. Two, that's not my name!" I couldn't help half yelling, half screaming at the woman.

Margaret is my guardian. I met her at CPS headquarters when I first woke up. She's is my super mom and I don't know what I would do without her. She also has a thing with calling me by my real name, Kairi. I have been in and out of foster homes for the past 6 years, and she has been there with me the whole time. She's been trying to find me a permanent home, while the government hunts down my mother... My birth mother.

All the foster homes I've been to have wanted to adopt, but they all had to foster. It's kinda like a tryout with for a sport. None of the families would adopt me. They all said the same thing. No. Two letters that hit you hard in the chest. I would cry and cry every time.

"Do I have to go?" I asked annoyed "We already know what they're going to say."

"Don't talk like that! I promise, this is the family!" Margaret exclaimed.

"I've heard that one before." I said sarcastically.

I don't have any memory of my past. All I know is that a boy found me in an alley, and called 9-1-1. I remember my name and my mothers, nothing else. I'm going to find my mother. And I'm going to go home with her. Everything will be okay after that. It’s supposed to be okay. If the government can’t find my mom, and I can’t find a permanent home, when I turn 13, they’re going to legally emancipated, and then I’ll be free. The government is going to give up on me. If they can’t find my mom, then I will. I will find her. I will remember what I have forgotten. This is my dream. A dream, that I won’t give up.
