The New Avenger (Infinity War)

We had gotten back from Wakanda and put all of our effort into finding Tony and the kid, Peter. When we began our search we found a woman by the name of Carol Danvers, who calls herself Captain Marvel, and she helped us in our search. Her ability to fly helps us immensely. After a couple of months we finally find Tony and Carol flies up to get him. While we wait for her to get back, I decide to relax with a hot shower. When I get out I look over the cut above my eyebrow, that I got from the alien who stabbed Vision.

As I look in the mirror, it begins to shake, when it does Steve knocks on the door, "Phebs?"

"I'm decent, Steve, you can open the door."

Steve slowly opens the door, just enough to poke his head inside, since we've gotten back from Wakanda he's shaved his beard, which I have to say I miss. "She found him and she's back."

I nod and the two of us head out to the yard of the compound. Nat, Banner, and Rhodes are there as well, all of us hoping we found Tony before it was too late. Carol lands, carrying a large spaceship, once she lands the landing gear deploys. When the hatch opens Tony and someone else exits. What appears to be a robot woman is helping Tony down the ramp. As Tony and the woman reach the bottom of the ramp, Steve runs over to him, helping him stand up, and I follow close behind Steve. Tony grips Steve's arm once he gets to him, "I couldn't stop him."

"Neither could I." Steve shakes his head.

"I lost the kid." Tony looks to Steve, completely broken.

"What?" I look to Tony, shocked.

"I'm sorry, Phoebe."

"Tony, we lost." Steve sighs.

"Is umm..." Tony struggles to ask his question.

Before he can finish Pepper runs over to him and embraces him, "Oh my God!"

"It's okay."

"Tony, let's get you inside. We need to get fluids into you." I help Pepper get Tony inside, before long Steve takes over for us.

Once we are inside, I give Tony an IV and we get him a small amount of food. Rhodes paces around, "It's been 23 days since Thanos came to Earth."

Nat takes a deep breath, "World governments are in pieces. The parts that are still working are trying to take a census. And it looks like he did..."

I sigh, "Exactly what he said he was going to do."

Nat nods, "he wiped out fifty percent of all living creatures."

"Where is he now?" Tony looks around the group, "Where?"

"We don't know." Steve crosses his arms, "he just opened a portal and walked through."

Tony nods and looks over to Thor, who is sitting on a bench pissed, "What's wrong with him?"

"He's pissed." Rocket nods, "He thinks he failed. Which of course, he did, but there's a lot of that going around, ain't there?"

"Honestly, until his exact second, I thought you were a Build-A-Bear." Tony looks down to Rocket as if he never thought science could create a talking animal.

"Maybe I am." Rocket shrugs.

"We've been hunting Thanos for three weeks now." Steve looks over to me.

I nod, "Deep space scans, satellites, and we got nothing. Tony, you fought him"

"Who told you that?" Tony shakes his head, "I didn't fight him. No, he wiped my face with a planet while the Bleecker Street Magician gave away the stone."

"So you found Strange."

"Wait?" Tony looks over to me. "You knew about the Magicians." Tony shakes his head, "Nevermind. That's what happened. There was no fight." Tony sighs, "I saw this coming a few years back. I had a vision. I didn't wanna believe it. I thought i was dreaming."

"Tony, I'm gonna need you to focus." Steve puts his hands out to Tony.

"And I needed you. As in past tense. That trumps what you need. It's to late buddy. Sorry. You know what I need?" Tony stands, pushing things off the table that clatter to the floor. Everyone winces at the noise, "I need to shave and I believe I remember telling you, Cap."

Tony goes for Steve. Rhodey quickly comes in front of him, trying to stop him, "Tony, Tony, Tony, Stop!"

"Otherwise what we needed was a suit of armor around the world! Remember that? Whether it impacted our precious freedom or not... That's what we needed!"

"Well, that didn't work out, did it?" Steve crosses his arms.

"Steve.." I whisper placing a hand on Steve's shoulder.

"I said, 'we'll lose.' You said, 'we'll do that together too.' And guess what, Cap? We lost. You weren't there. But that's what we do, right? Our best work after the fact? We're the Avengers, we're the Avengers. Not the Prevengers, right?"

Rhodey tries to calm Tony down, "okay, you made your point. Just sit down, ok?"

"Nah, nah, nah." Tony pushes Rhodey away, "here's my point."

"Sit down!" Rhodey shouts.

Tony points to Carol and I, "They're great, by the way. We need you. You're new blood."

"Tony!"

"Bunch of tired old mills! I got nothing for you, Cap! I got no coordinates, no clues, no plan, no options. Zero. Zip. Nada. No trust. Liar." Steve is clearly affected by Tony's words. The old friends gaze at each other. After a moment, Tony rips his Arc Reactor from his chest and shoves it into Steve's hand. "Here, take this. You find him, and you put that on. You hide." Tony falls to the ground. Steve is by his side and everyone is starting to gather. "I'm fine. I..." Tony falls into a heap, unconscious.
