"How was the hunting trip?" Hosea stands at the hitching post, a inquisitive smile plays on his lips as we ride up.
"Just fine.." Arthur mumbles as he hitches Persephone. He plants his big hands on my waist roughly, helping me down.
"Miss Monroe. I trust that Arthur has been...accommodating." Arthur walks past us, head down. A small blush on his high cheekbones forms, Hosea doesn't miss it. "What the hell happened?" He looks at me in confusion.
I had to think of a lie. I can't lose Arthur's trust completely. "Um..I fell down a hill and he's blaming himself." Which isn't entirely a lie.
"Hmm." Hosea taps his chin. "Are you hurt then?"
"Yes." I start to raise my dress tail up and Susan walks by.
"MISS MONROE! Don't you dare expose your leg to a man!" She notices the blood on my ankle before I drop it. "Oh! You're bleeding." She rushes to me, pulling me towards the medicine wagon. "Dear girl what happened?"
Oh boy..
_______________
After Tilly and Susan heard the story of my cut and I'm all patched up, the night routine is back in full swing..except for me at least. Grimshaw is all over me about standing up! It's just a cut...
Sadie sits down beside my tent, looking at me. "You alright Isabella?" She asks.
"Sure. Just a cut." I say, looking down to the beer bottle Im drinking from.
"Me and you are the same. Outsiders." She says suddenly, looking onto the rest of the gang with a sad frown on her face. Apart from me and Sadie, only Strauss and Arthur sits alone. Strauss is working on papers and Arthur on the other hand is drawing or writing something over in his quarters. Every now and then I catch him lookin over here but quickly he looks away almost ashamed.
"I'm so damn alone." Sadie says.
"I know." I find myself saying. "I'm here for you though." A sad smile crosses her lips but quickly disappears.
"I don't belong in society anymore. I'm bitter and full of hate.. what they did to my Jake.." a quiet sob escapes her lips but as soon as a tear drops, they were gone completely. She looks at me with pure fire in her eyes. "What they did to me...they will pay." She growls out.
I had saw Lindsay play that part about Sadie, then Hosea told me exactly what happened when the gang found her. Every since I've come here, I've noticed she sits alone, away from the camp a little ways.
"I hardly know you but...I will help the best I can. I ain't worth a shit at shooting or hunting but I will try." I reach for her hand, she is startled but slowly squeezes my hand back.
"Thank you." Her voice broke. Before I could say another word, off she is again. She rounds the tents and sat alone outside the camp quite a ways.. my heart breaks for her.
I felt his stare again, almost like a fever starting. Heat climbs my cheeks as I look up to see Arthur. This time he doesn't look away, instead he stares at me with a peculiar look in his eyes. I found myself staring back, but as soon as I smile, he turns away and lays down on his cot with his back in my direction..
This man..there's something about him. There's more to him than just an outlaw. And I'm determined to find out and to save his ass in the process.
Short chapter! Sorry, a filler ig! But I enjoyed writing about Sadie! Hope y'all like it! ❤️
