I race after the owl. Tree limbs whipping passed me, slapping me in the face. The sting is fresh and real but it feels like I was soaring, I can't stop.
I know Arthur is racing behind me, confused and concerned..but I just can't stop.
The owl keeps going, the night sky sparkles above her.
I ride hard behind her until Emerald Ranch emerges in the distance, Arthur whips Persephone in front of me now. His jaw is set tight, anger and fire in his eyes."What the hell are you doing!? Chasing a owl like a madwoman!" He jumps down from his horse, approaching my own with purpose.
He jerks me off the horse, not too rough but enough to snap me out of haze that blocks my ability to think clearly.
"Stop." I demand, he holds onto my shoulders as if I would bolt any moment. But he releases me, taking a deep breath, adjusting his hat.
"Well...tell me what the hell youre doing?"
"That-That owl..I was told to follow her."
He looks at me seriously but bursts out laughing. "Are you drunk?" He finally asks.
I roll my eyes. "No."
"Are you...okay?" He clears his throat trying to be serious. "I mean..did ya hit your head?" He gently caresses my head, I swat him away.
"No!" I snap which makes him chuckle.
"Alright, alright." He backs away defensively. "How about we follow your precious little owl?"
"Well..whether you came or not, I was going to. But looks like I lost her now."
"No ya didn't." He points behind me, I follow and surprisingly there she is..just sitting in the tree, turning her head in odd directions.
"Well shit." I mount Misty.
As if knowing what I'm doing, the owl takes off towards the mountains behind Emerald Ranch.__________
Arthur and I climb the hill in silence, our horses couldn't take the steep incline so we have to go on foot..sadly.
We've been out all night it seems as the sun slowly peaks in the distance.
The owl is perches on a singular tree on the edge of the cliff she directed us to.
Arthur informed me earlier that we're in East Grizzlies now, bordering Roanoke country.. he seems to be fond of this country.
The owl seems satisfied now that we're on the cliff. She turns her head back and forth, making 'who' sounds. Now the sun is slowly rising, kissing the earth with its warmth. Arthur stares out onto the sunrise, the light hits him perfectly bringing out the blonde in his sandy hair and the yellow-green flecks that brighten those blue eyes perfectly..
The owl flaps her wings, bringing my attention back and winks then she's off. What the hell is so significant about this spot? Am I truly this crazy? What is Arthur thinking?
"Arthur?"
He looks at me stunned. "Yeah?"
"Am I going crazy?"
He laughs, a sound so warm and real..it makes me want to smile but I can't seem to do that right now.
"Seems so." He shrugs his shoulders. "But this was worth it." He looks to the sunrise again.
"Yeah..." I agree but this horrible eerie feeling grips me.
"Bella!" I hear Lindsay suddenly.
"Hey!" I yell excitedly, looking over the still horizon, imagining she's there.
