This story will be portraying many ignorant characters, racism and stereotypes. My characters are not a reflection of me. They do not portray how I think and act. I oppose many of my characters' thoughts and actions — but it's for the sake of the story and the awareness of social construct that I do this. If any of the jokes offended you in the previous—or upcoming—chapters, I apologises.
This story is meant to be complex and you're meant to have conflicting emotions on each character. So, be reminded, it's okay if you feel like that.
Once I notice my friends' approaching figures, I shove my phone into the inside of my back pocket. My attention immediately on my three best friends. Raelynn had her Michael Kors bag tucked between her arm, and the other arm hooked around Aubree's. Naomi follows behind the pair as they collectively drew closer to our designated morning spot.
"Hey Lila." Raelynn greets, giving me a warm smile as I mirror her. Her blue eyes settled down from my face to my outfit, "it's hot. Why are you wearing long sleeves?"
I look down at my tan sweater, fidgeting with the ends. "It matches with the outfit. Plus, the inside of the school is cold." That was a lie. The real reason why I decided to wear long sleeves again was because when I woke up this morning, and my reflection stared back at me in the mirror, I absolutely hated what I saw. More than usual. It then prompted me to change into some long sleeves, non-showing skin type of attire. For mine—and the world's—sake.
