Billie's POV
As soon as I pull in the driveway, I waste no time turning off the ignition and walk briskly towards the front door. I pull out the house key (Y/N) gave me and shove it in the keyhole. I turn the lock and open the door.
Huh. Looks empty.
"(Y/N)?" I call out, looking towards the stairs.
Is she up there?
Sure enough, she slowly drags her feet down the stairs, her head hung low. I walk towards her, meeting her halfway as she takes the last step down. She finally looks up at me, causing me to raise my eyebrows at her. Her face has lost a hint of color, her cheeks tear stained and the tip of her nose was pink. Her hair was unkempt, and her body posture resembled jelly, her limbs and upper body just dangling along. As we stare at one another, I give her a lopsided grin. A moment after that, tears well up in her eyes before she throws her arms around me to hold me in an embrace, burying her face in my shoulder.
"I've missed you."
I chuckle before wrapping my arms around her in return, squeezing tightly. "I've missed you, too."
"Expect a lot of hugs from me today. I'm very touch starved and am in need of comfort."
I laugh heartily, "So you've texted." I take my phone out of my pocket, raising it before sliding it back in.
She breaks apart the hug - making me feel weirdly disappointed - to look at me in sympathy. "Oh yeah. I heard you were with Danielle and the twins at the mall. I'm so sorry for the drive, it's pretty far getting here."
I wave her off. "Oh trust me, it's no big deal. I didn't mind the drive. As soon as you texted, I dropped everything and headed over as soon as I could."
"Really?" She beams.
"Of course. I thought you might need some company."
I watch as she lowers her head, barely hiding the dopey smile and blush on her face. "That's sweet."
"Yeah well, you know me." I coughed, "Plus, I also figured I might come over before you turned yourself or this place a mess. Turns out I was too late about one of those."
She chuckles halfheartedly before raking her fingers through her hair, trying her best to comb it out that way. "Yeah, I guess I do look like a mess."
Way to go, dumbass. You made her insecure.
"Well, on the bright side, you do look more...you."
She stopped, before raising an eyebrow in confusion. "What do you mean?"
I sigh before looking back up to her.
How do I explain this?
"Well, to me...you had this unique style all on your own. A very distinctive...you sorta look, you know?"
"I don't."
I grunt in frustration, though I don't blame her for not understanding. I try again, "Well, when it was just us and the twins and Danielle, you were more you. Your hair down, no makeup, tomboyish clothes." I smile, the image of her like that coming to the front of my mind. "I liked your style. You were like a little me."
She pushed me playfully. "You wish. You might be a few months older than me, but I'm taller than you."
"Anyway." I say loudly over her, causing her to chuckle. The smile on my face only grew wider, "It was one of the things that we shared in common. Wore comfy, baggy clothes that were for 'boys', but we didn't give a fuck. Remember when you even stole a shirt from your dad?"
