"One vanilla cone please."Of course he would come here.
He sat under an umbrella and began to enjoy consuming his favorite treat, ice cream. As he did so, he allowed himself to remember the past events that occured.
According to Meiko, Kaito has been feeling down recently but he never told her the reason why. He never told anyone, actually.
Last 2016, VOCALOID4 was released. As one of the main vocaloids, Kaito felt so disappointed to hear that he did not get any upgrade. As he stood in the sidelines to watch many of his friends gain V4 voicebanks, he couldn't help but feel ostracized and left out. When his fans realized this, they reached out to Kaito and gave him more love and support than he ever had before. This confidence boost of his helped him stay motivated to sing his whole virtual heart out on stage while he could still be heard.
Then came VOCALOID5.
V5 arrived around the middle of last year so it was still pretty recent. The man with the blue scarf is dreading for who would get this new upgrade. He is hoping that he and his friends could all have it even if it meant skipping V4.
This is also what happened in the past. Kaito wasn't able to have a V2 but Krypton gave him a V3 since it was too late for his part in VOCALOID2.
During that time (which was back in 2007), he didn't feel so down since this was the time he met most of the friends he's living with right now. When Miku was released, she really helped Kaito back on his feet by singing, "A Request From Hatsune" which was dedicated to Kaito. This song popularized him even though it was a 19-second parody of another song. At that time, so few people knew about Kaito so when Miku sang this song for him, he became famous again.
That is why he is very thankful to have his friends around him and it was heartwarming enough to know that they looked up to him. They also tried to cheer him up and encourage him to talk to them about what was bothering him but he always thought to himself that, as one of the older Vocaloids, he shouldn't show any weakness. Even if it meant he was afraid of being forgotten or even if he felt like a grain of sand being buried under numerous piles of sand.
Facing his problems alone, Kaito didn't want to have his hope crushed so he did what he could to stay hopeful. His fans were always there for him too so he knew they were a reliable source of motivation.
But where are they know? He thought to himself as he accidentally crushed the ice cream cone that he was holding. Thankfully, he was more than halfway consuming it so it didn't make so much of a mess.
After cleaning up the mess he made, he stood to get another ice cream but this time on a popsicle stick so he could be prepared if he accidentally crushes it too.
When he finished paying, he took the popsicle and walked around in the sun. He noticed people giving him awkward stares most likely because he was wearing a scarf and eating ice cream at the same time. This didn't bother him since he was already used to people being confused whether he was feeling warm or cold.
Having nothing to think about, he went back to the dream he had..
"W-what??" He stammered as he suddenly caught himself tearing up. He quickly tosses his popsicle stick into the trash bin. "Why am I..?" He brings one hand to the spot right under one of his eyes and when he feels something wet, he panics.
No.. not in public. Please. He pulled the scarf around his neck higher so that it could cover the splotches of pink on his face. Then, he hurried behind a tree so that nobody could hear his heavy breathing.
The dream just felt so real to him. He didn't want to be forgotten. He didn't want to be replaced. Most of all, he didn't want to be unheard! And in his dream, his worst fears just came to life. It was as if he really was losing his voice. He knows that the voices of Vocaloids are very special gifts given by their creators, and these gifts are meant to be shared! Without his voice, how is he going to show his gratefulness to his creators and each and every person out there who's shown him love and support? It has been thirteen years since he was introduced as a Vocaloid and now all of that was fading away. You wish you could tell him that it was just a dream but no, it wasn't. His dream was a metaphor of the actual reality he is facing.
The reality in which the once loved blue-haired, scarf-wearing, adorable, ice cream-loving, big brother was..
getting old..
He is afraid because of the fact that he isn't getting any more voicebanks and his fans are getting disappointed about it. Some of them even stopped listening to his songs.
He didn't want that. No Vocaloid would ever dream to be forgotten or ignored. It didn't matter if he was one of the main 6 vocaloids because he was still getting less popular than before. If he really is as well-known as before, people at this park would have already recognized him by now.
What about Miku? He questioned.
Miku is the most famous Vocaloid who is one of the most known characters in the world.
Does she also feel afraid of "getting old" even if people all around the world still listen to her songs?
If she was feeling that way, does that mean every other Vocaloid is? Would that also mean that the whole Vocaloid community could be at risk here?
Kaito hugged his knees while leaning his back on the tree. He didn't know if his mind was making any sense right now and he can't come up with solutions if he didn't have a clear grasp of what his main problem was before it branched out into different problems.
Why am I so helpless?? He thought.
Then suddenly, a voice interrupts his thoughts.
"I wish.." He hears a little boy in the distance say.
Kaito had raised his head when the little boy continued on with his wish.
"I wish I had the confidence to tell him someday." The boy says as he tosses something shiny into the fountain in front of him.
Kaito realized that there was a fountain in the distance that people visit to make wishes. He sees the little boy he heard smile at the fountain and hurry away.
That boy.. I've seen him before..
That was when an idea came to his head.
I know it sounds cliche, but.. I want to smile like how that little boy did. I want to make a wish.
He stood up and walked to the fountain, preparing a coin he took from his pocket. He peered down on the water below and took in a breath.
"I wish.." The coin rested on his index finger, ready to be struck by his thumb.
"I wish to be heard again."
He flipped his coin once and tossed it into the water. He watched it drown to the bottom of the fountain with an unsettling feeling in his stomach.

(Hey guys! This is the link to the Miku song, "A Request From Hatsune" since it couldn't be found in YouTube. It's a short video but it really helped Kaito's popularity rise.

For those who can't understand Japanese, she's saying,
"please sometimes recall [KAITO."
And
"where are you now and what are you doing now?"
There's also a video out there (An Answer to Hatsune Miku) that was Kaito's response to Miku's song and he says that he was just eating an ice cream :D cute. He also says in the video that He and Miku should eat ice cream together next time..
I don't ship Miku and Kaito but I don't blame those who do.)
