Hey guys! I'm Ashley :) This is my first fanfic that I've ever written so please go easy on me! I'll try to update at least every day or so.. it depends if I have time or not :/ okay well enjoyy!

----------------------------------------------------------------

How should I start a letter to a complete stranger?

Dear stranger,

No, too awkward.

Dear pen pal,

Nah.

Dear whoever the hell is reading this,

Good enough for now.

I don’t know about you but I got assigned as your pen pal. My teacher couldn’t think of anything better to do so instead she forced us to tell complete strangers our life story. Let’s just say that my life is complicated and that there is no way I’m telling you about it. But I was sort of forced to so I have no choice. Well, here goes nothing.

Hi. I’m Rachel. I’m just another forgotten teenager no one even cares about. My family judges me, my friends left me, my teachers don’t even give me a chance. In other words, I’m unwanted. I’ve had a rough past and I am most certainly NOT going into detail about that.

I bet your life is far more interesting and better than mine. If you’re a girl, I bet you probably have tons of friends clogging up your inbox with new gossip. And if you’re a guy, you’re probably the captain of some sports team and have every single girl in the school crushing on you. Sorry, my teacher didn’t really tell us anything about our pen pals, one of them being the gender.

If you are one of those of what I just described, let me tell you something: I am nothing like that. I’m not like most of today’s girls who’s obsessed with annoying gossip. All I’m obsessed with is listening to music on my phone whenever I’m not trying to struggle with keeping my grades up for school. Yeah, I’m not quite the smartest, either. Maybe that’s why I’m unwanted… what do you think? Actually no, don’t answer that. I don’t need your opinion. I bet you’re probably judging me right now or I bet this letter is probably already in a paper shredder because you didn’t care about reading this far into my letter.

Well that’s enough about me. You can write back if you want, unless you’re already judging me and scared to reply. Whatever, its your decision. :/ Okay well I’m probably already boring you so... bye?

            -Rachel

As I finished writing out my letter, I put in an envelope, sealed it, and wrote down the mysterious address that my teacher had given to me.

I wouldn’t care less if they didn’t reply back. This stranger probably didn’t have enough time to have a heart and actually write back to me. But deep down inside, I was hoping that they would reply, because then somebody would actually care about me for once.

I walked outside to the mailbox placing the tiny envelope inside. After shutting the mailbox and putting the flag on the side up, I walked back into my house hoping that I would get a reply.

*Niall’s POV*

I sat on the couch in our house watching the news. They were talking about some more stupid rumors. Being a celebrity had its perks, but sometimes it was just all too much. If I were ever hanging out with my cousins in public, the press would automatically think we were dating.

And then there were the fans. I loved them to death, but sometimes they would take something the wrong way and start even more rumors. And then there was the hate. Sometimes they didn’t realize that the things they say actually hurt.

My thoughts were interrupted from the doorbell ringing. Looking over at the clock, I noticed it was 2 pm.The lads should be back in a few hours I thought. I walked over to the door and opened it revealing the mailman holding a few envelopes. “Hello Mr. Horan, these are for you” he said handing the envelopes to me. I took them and said “Thank you” before shutting the door. I set the envelopes on the kitchen counter looking through the envelopes. Most of them were for the lads, until I noticed a small one without a name addressed to it. I wanted to open it, but what if it was for someone else? What the hell, no one else is here anyways I thought and opened the small envelope. Inside was a small piece of paper with what seemed like a girl’s handwriting on it. Was it a fan?

I walked back over to the couch with the letter in my hand and sat down. I began to read the letter:

Dear whoever the hell is reading this,

Pen pal? How did she get our address? Management was sure that our location wouldn’t be released so fans wouldn’t go crazy. This Rachel didn’t seem like one. Was Rachel a fan? I looked at her address: 2479 Brookstone Road. (A/N Hopefully not a real address!) That was about 5, maybe 10 minutes away? I continued reading the letter –

I bet your life is far more interesting and better than mine. If you’re a girl, I bet you probably have tons of friends clogging up your inbox with new gossip. And if you’re a guy, you’re probably the captain of some sports team and have every single girl in the school crushing on you. I chuckled to myself. I was nowhere close to being the captain of a team. Instead, I was apart of a worldwide known boy band. If only she knew who she was writing to…

-Rachel

It was obvious that Rachel was struggling. No one seemed to care about her. Something inside my head was telling me to write back, but something else was holding me back. What would management think about me writing to a complete stranger? But how would Rachel react if she found out I hadn’t written her back? Management or Rachel?

I finally made a decision and got up from the couch to get a piece of paper and a pen. When I had both, I sat down at the kitchen table and began my response to Rachel’s letter.
