Chapter Sixteen
It’s been about a week since I decided to come back to the boys, and I still hadn’t spoken a word. There were times when they would try to get me to speak by making corny jokes or whatnot, but I didn’t budge. I wasn’t going to speak to them that easily. I know, this is probably a stubborn thing of me to do, but I needed time to myself, just to think.
Right now we were all sitting at the table, eating chicken for lunch. As always, the boys were trying to start up a conversation, trying to get me to talk.
“So Rach,” Liam started, “I got an email from Paul saying that you’re more than welcome to come on the road with us when our tour starts in a few months! That sounds exciting!”
I continued to eat my food without looking up and making a sound. I could feel pairs of eyes staring at me, waiting for me to speak, but I never did.
Louis was the next person to speak up. “By the way, I started reading Catching Fire the other day. You were right, it is a good series!”
More silence. I didn’t even dare to look up at them.
“God dammit Rachel why are you doing this to us?!” Liam’s sudden outburst made me look up and see four other boys with shocked expressions. I looked at Liam for the first time, and noticed how frustrated he was.
Without hesitating, I quickly got up from the table and speeded out of the kitchen and up the stairs to my room. I didn’t want them to see how hard this was for me.
*Niall’s POV*
After Liam’s surprising outburst at lunch, the rest of the meal was eaten in awkward silence. We all drifted off into our own rooms doing whatever. I had taken a nap because lately I hadn’t been getting much sleep. Whenever I closed my eyes, I saw her. I saw Rachel.
She made my heart race every time I saw her. But it was hard seeing the girl I liked not wanting to talk to me. In fact, every time she saw me she wouldn’t even dare to look at me. I felt like she was mostly mad at me. But I deserved it.
I looked over at my clock, which read 8 pm. Wow, time flies fast. Since there was nothing to do, I got up off my bed and started to head downstairs. I heard the TV coming from the living room so I walked over to see what was happening. When I reached the living room, I saw Rachel watching what looked like The X Factor. She was watching the auditions.
“Hey,” I said, which caused her to jump and turn around. Once she saw me, she turned back around facing the TV again. I decided to sit down next to her on the couch, which surprised her and gave me a strange look.
“I love watching the auditions. They’re the best part,” I added.
But she continued watching the auditions, not taking her eyes off the screen.
“I think she’s good, she’ll probably make it far,” I said, motioning to the girl who was auditioning. The judges seemed to be impressed by her and she walked off earning 4 yesses from the judges.
The next girl walked on stage and introduced herself. She started to sing Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis.
“Wow, she has an amazing voice. I can definitely see her on the cov-“
