A Mother's Regret

For the next three days, you and Zeref spent your time in the village. You refused to meet M/n again. You refused to let her see that her words hurt you. Zeref stayed by your side, supporting you while assisting you to figure out who the murderer was.

While you laid in bed, you had your leg atop Zeref's torso as you remained tangled with one another. His arms held you to his chest, running his fingers through your somewhat messy hair, lightly disentangling your hair.

"Y/n?"

You hummed in response. "Yes, Zer?" You mumbled tiredly against his chest, staring up at the male to see what he would ask. "How do you feel about leaving Magnolia to go to Crocus?" He asked, tucking a few strands of hair behind your ear, the back of his hand caressing your cheek.

You were thinking of telling Zeref to go to Crocus to attend the Grand Magic Games. For as long as you could remember, you loved going to the Grand Magic Games. "I want to go. We can go after we're done here." You turned to lay on your side as your back faced Zeref.

All of a sudden, you felt Zeref planting light kisses on your shoulder to the nape of your neck. Flinching, you looked over your shoulder only to see Zeref smile innocently, your cheeks turning into a deeper red than Erza's hair color. "W-What was that for?"

Zeref chuckled softly, resting his head against your back. "Is it a crime to show I love you?" He suggested. His mumbling tickled your back, sending goosebumps up your arm. "Not really. You caught me by surprise." You huffed in response. You knew he was getting you back for teasing him back at the cave. It was mornings like this caused you to love waking up beside Zeref.

Mornings like this with him made you feel at peace. You had nothing to worry about anymore. You were here with him after seven years passed. It was more than enough to wake up by his side. As you turned back around, you welcomed Zeref into your arms instead. It didn't bother you as much when he rested his head against your chest.

"I hope I'm comfortable."

You laughed when you noticed that Zeref's eyes remained close, his soft breathing brushed against your skin. "It feels like I am laying on a comfortable pillow." The color in your cheeks appeared again when he said that. Well, at least he found you comfy. You said nothing to his comment.

You placed a small kiss on the top of his head. It was cowardly of you to not face your mother because of what she said three days ago. You knew you shouldn't cry over a simple thing like that. After years of questioning who your parents were, you couldn't hate her after what she said. Hell, you didn't hate her before you knew who she was.

"I am glad to have you in my life, Zeref."

After investigating the murders, you sighed in disappointment when you examined the body. The woman had her throat slit as well as her body was covered in various puncture wounds to her abdomen and chest.

When you detected a faint scent on the corpse, you shook your head. Standing up from the ground, you made your way back to a woman who was helping you with the murders.

"Did you find anything?"

A woman named Rose asked, tilting her head to the side. She couldn't bear to examine the corpse with you. She feared she would vomit at the sight of the unrecognizable body.
