I had acted like a bitch. And I regretted that right after I remembered what Umbridge's detentions entailed. Dad still had the words I must not tell lies, carved on the top of his hand.
I have to admit. I'm not usually like this. I'm sweet and caring with a little spice, but never hateful. This is not in my nature.
I don't know who to trust yet if I can rely on Harry, or Hermione, whether Ron will turn on Hermione's or Harry's side. Quite frankly Harry just needs friends that support him. Not ones that fight with him all the time.
Once again I sat at the library. I didn't read, I just sat by the window looking outside to the grounds of Hogwarts. What a lovely sight.
"So... What is this whole press conference thing anyway?" The sudden voice of Harry came behind her. "I followed you, sorry thought you might need a friend..."
"Yeah, it's okay." I kept my gaze at the window but with a sigh, I turned to look at Harry: "You can sit down." He was standing there, one hand rubbing the back of his neck the other shoved into his pant pocket.
When he joined me on the windowsill I sighed: "You really haven't had one before?"
"No, I don't think so."
"A press conference is just what it sounds like someone, usually a public figure invites the press to a certain location at a certain time to inform them of something important or of value. It might be resigning from a major role or a wedding announcement from the minister of magic. This time it will be us, well mainly you, informing them of me being your cousin." I explain.
"Well, couldn't we just send a letter?" Harry asked, dumbfounded and frowning.
"No, they could just throw it in the trash or not read it. In addition, they could say we are just coming up with excuses or state that it wasn't even from us. Trust me this is the best way to bring pour truth to the people." I promised with a smile.
"So have you done this before?" Harry asked.
"I used to see a lot of them. Some of the students in Beauxbatons come from important well-known families and the other family members would come to the school to make statements and announcements without interrupting the studies of one of their kin." I told Harry. A lie straight off the top of my head. The truth is that I've been through my fair share of press conferences. We would have them when the press -Rita Skeeter- would come up with another Potter family scandal.
The press wouldn't hold back a penny to investigate nor protect our privacy to find out what was going on and then we would have to do some damage control. Of course, sometimes they were right and we would have to spin off a believable lie to get one of our family members out of a tight spot... I always felt bad then about lying. But I understood it was sometimes necessary to protect those we love.
"Well, it's nice that they can use the school like that." Harry shrugged.
"Hogwarts allows it too."
"I haven't ever heard or seen something like that here." Harry mumbled thinking back.
"It's kind of old fashioned to have the whole family there. I think the only household here that would do something like that would be the Malfoy's." Somehow I knew I had just said something important and that I needed to remember that but I couldn't figure out what I was connecting the name to in my head.
"Yeah, but they haven't done it either." Harry mumbled.
"Yeah well, maybe Lucius leads the family on his own." I offered.
"Yeah... And they do have the Malfoy family ball each year." Harry noted, uncaringly.
"What's that?" I asked. Finally, it was Harry's turn to explain something.
"Well after each school year they have Malfoy family ball. Ron told me about it. It's also kind of a birthday celebration for Malfoy - Draco. His birthday is apparently a little before the summer break starts. They have a massive feast and the ballroom is decorated with no spared expense. All noble/pureblood families are invited and all people of power like the minister of magic and even some high-end quidditch teams. It's like a massive celebration for stuck up people who think they are better than others." Harry rolls his eyes. "There apparently was a time when even the Weasley's were invited, but they aren't rich enough anymore and the Malfoy's consider them blood traitors so... You know they hate each other like the plague." Harry explained.
"Oh... I haven't heard of it." I said. "Sounds really pompous anyway."
"So this press conference-" Harry said after a moment. "-What should I say?"
"Just tell them the truth. That we are cousins, not married, not in any sort of relationship other than a family bond." I stated.
"Okay... And what about when they ask who your parents are? I mean there was the idea of saying you are Petunia's child that had magic, but that wouldn't work because your last name should be Evans then."
"I guess we have no choice but tell them about dad." I sigh.
"But that will ruin the family name. Our grandparents name and reveal that they threw away their child and faked his death of flames because he had no magic." Harry said.
"Well yeah... But it's better than making up a random relative they would never believe anything like that. This will be the only thing they will actually believe."
"Okay... I guess we are doing this." He nodded.
"Yeah... We have to."
