Jimin and Taehyung entered the empty apartment together. The air was eerily still inside and the sound of each movement they made seemed to be largely magnified. They both took off their shoes in similar mechanical movements, exhaustion clear in every muscle in their body. After a disappointing and rather depressing lunch together, they had gone bowling, but it was no fun without Jungkook as competition and a mentor, since the two of them were bad at it. Who were they kidding? They sucked at it.
Not really having much to do they went to the basketball court, where they were defeated by the opponents pretty badly. It was after that, that they realized that today was not their lucky day. While heading home, the car stopped because the fuel was too low. Which made them further believe in the possibility that their fairy-godmother had started her period today.
Eventually, they reached home and here they were, lying on the couch, contemplating how life could be so miserable.
"Tae, could you please call Kookie and tell him to bring food for us?"
Taehyung looked at their phones lying on the table. It was too far for his hand to reach but close enough for him to sit up and take it.
"Why can't you call him?"
"Cause the phone's too far away.", he said as if it was the most normal thing to say in the world.
"Dude, that's your excuse?"
"What? You're the responsible one anyway."
Taehyung scoffed at how lame Jimin was being today. This morning, he had been so clearly jealous of Taehyung that he had wanted to punch Jimin in the face. Jimin knew that there was no way Taehyung he would be even slightly interested in you. Not that you were not nice, he just wasn't the kind of guy who liked dating. Anyone. Sometimes he could never understand people who did. If you like someone, tell them. Initiate something. Why did people make everything so complicated?
Jimin pleaded with his eyes for Taehyung to call Jungkook, pointing continuously at his phone. Taehyung sighed but gave up, knowing that he wasn't gonna get up. He went up to the table and picked his phone up and called Jungkook. After about three painfully slow rings, he picked up. Taehyung told him to bring food from their favorite restaurant and he agreed. Now all they had to do was wait. And they did just that.
Taehyung went back to sit on the couch but found that Jimin had already taken it. So he reluctantly went to the armchair next to the couch, plopping down adn closing his eyes.
Jimin and Taehyung sat in peaceful silence, mainly because they were too tired. Taehyung wanted to say a lot of things, ask a lot of questions but he didn't know how to do so. He didn't know how to ask Jimin about you.
Taehyung didn't have to. Jimin broke the silence.
"Do you think (Y/N) is dating that Namjoon guy? I think she is."
Taehyung internally cringed. How obvious could Jimin be? He couldn't take it.
"Tell me the truth, Jimin. Do you like (Y/N)?", Taehyung asked bluntly. Jimin's reaction was immediate.
"What? No no no no no no no. You got it wrong, buddy. She is not my type."
"Seven no's", Taehyung said, his lips turned up and eyes closed.
Jimin somehow did not seem to have heard Taehyung.
"I mean, at least I think so. She's nice and all. Bit angry all the time. Kinda cute. I like her. Like as a friend maybe.", He added the last senstence in a hurry.
"But you know me, Taehyung. I don't do the whole comittment thing."
"You don't, yes, but you could start." Taehyung said, his eyes still closed, his hands now supporting his head.
Jimin, meanwhile, was having an interesting argument with himself.
Do I really not like her?
Well, that was easily answered. Yes, he did. But was he willing to take a step? Do something else?
He had never trusted anyone other than Taehyung and Jungkook. He knew love to be a marketing strategy or a hoax. That is all it was. So all he needed was his two best friends and a couple hundred girls to get through his life.
But you. You were a chance. And you would either end up ruining everything or making things a lot better.
Jimin, in simple words, had no idea whatsoever about how to define his feelings for you. But one thought kept him sane.
I don't even know her that well. Maybe give it some time?
(Such a petty excuse, don't you think?)
His thoughts about you were interrupted by the sudden knocking of the door. It was Jungkook because he was the only one who knocked instead of using the bell. It was pathetic and cute at the same time, the way he tried to show his masculine side sometimes.
Taehyung's eyes flew open. He knew that there was next to no possibility that Jimin would open the door. So, he got up, encouraging himself with the thoughts of food.
Jungkook came in, a small but evident smile on his face. Pure happiness was shone in his eyes.
Somehow, unknowingly, both Tae's and Jimin's face light up, despite the dull day they had today. The youngest's smile made the two of them feel at ease, relaxing their troubled minds.
"I brought food!", Jungkook chimed, his smile slightly growing. He put the food on the table and sat beside Jimin, who had finally realized that it was a good time to get up. He did, but instantly put his head on Jungkook's shoulder, but he didn't seem to notice.
"I already ate, so you guys can eat up." he chimed, and then proceeded to pat Jimin's head lightly. That weirded Jimin out, and he sat up straight.
"You had two meals with her?", Tae asked, intrigued, his eyebrows raised.
"Nah. We got so busy talking about stuff that we forgot to get lunch. It was late so we decided to skip lunch and get dinner. But we couldn't complete it cause (Y/N) called and started screaming something about house rules and hypocrisy." Jungkook's smile made no sign of wavering as he started unpacking the food for the two.
Jimin let a small smile come up to his lips. He ruffled Jungkook's hair and got up to wash his hands and get ready for dinner.
"Well, anyway, how was it?", Jimin asked as he entered the kitchen.
"It was nice. We're a lot more alike than I thought." Jungkook said, a very subtle pink glow on his cheeks.
"I'm glad you're finally opening up to someone.", Taehyung smiled at him.
"Thanks."
Jimin tuned out their conversation out as he started getting plates and cups for the other two. He couln't stop thinking about you. He couldn't help but think what it would be like to be with you.
