The sky was bright that night. People were gathering around the bonfire. The wind blew.
They sat by side. He looked at her, she looked at him. Smiles were exchanged.
Someone played music, so loud. Everybody stood up and started dancing.
They were dancing, their bodies were getting close. Her hands touched his, then their lips met, eyes were closed. And suddenly the world became a very quiet place; they heard nothing but their breaths and the sound of their fast pounding hearts.
She opened her eyes, stepped back and looked away.
He held her arms, stopping her from running away. "Do you regret this?"
She still looked away. "I don't know."
"It will be over soon."
"Yes." She touched his hand, slowly releasing her arm.
"Let's walk."
They walked side by side, away from the crowd, away from music.
"Look." He stopped walking and touched her arm softly. "Please."
She stopped, too and took off her slippers.
They stood side by side, facing the ocean. The waves touched their bare feet.
"The times we spent together were amazing. It's very short, but I am glad I met you." He looked at her. "Aren't you?"
She looked back at him. Her face was blushing but not shown under the night sky. "I am. But...."
"No but, please. Let's just enjoy this moment, you and me. Just you and me."
She reached for his hand. He squeezed her hand.
"What time is your flight again?"
"Eight in the morning. And you?"
"Still at two. Plenty of time for me." He pulled her closer, made her facing him then stroked her hair softly. He looked at her right in the eyes. "I will miss you, a lot. And I will never forget you."
Before she had a say, he kissed her gently but passionately. Nothing but the sound of the waves hitting the beach was heard. After a while, they both ended the kiss.
With a smile of her face, she touched his face. "I will always remember you."
He smiled back at her. He touched her hand and brought it down. "Let's go back."
Still side by side, they walked back, but not hand in hand.
"Keep in touch?" He asked as the bonfire was in sight.
"Sure."
They looked at each other for a moment, because they knew it would be the last look.
He pulled her and embraced her in a tight hug. "Thank you," he whispered.
"Thank you, too," she whispered back.
He let her go. They parted.
Her phone rang; a smiling face was shown on the screen. "Hello, Love." She walked towards the crowd.
He looked back until she disappeared from his sight. He took his phone from his pocket then dialled a number; a face was shown on the screen. "Hi Babe." He walked to the cottage area.
And so, the summer fling was over.
