~ Nine Weeks Later~

The lab puppies, Cobalt, Ivy and, Hudson wrestled in the grass as the golden retriever pup, Blare, watched from a distance. She looked up to Icea sitting next to her.

“When can I play with them?” asked Blare, ears pricking up in a questioning tone.

“When your big enough, and strong enough to take bumps and bruises.” said Icea with a chuckle. Blare turned her attention back to the play fight.

Kumiko was out, looking at the forest ahead. She then arose quickly to her paws with a growl and pricked ear.  She turned back to to Icea and barked,

“I smell something, and I don’t like it.”

Icea walked up to Kumiko, swiftly as Blare stumbled behind.

“Blare, stay back!” demanded Icea with a worried bark. She didn’t want the little pup hurt considering it wasn’t technically hers. She remembered the day she found it, tiny and helpless little pup. So her vow since days after the finding was that she’d protect it with all her care.

When Icea reached Kumiko, she stuck her nose in the air and opened her mouth, tasting the air. She knew the smell instantly, and it wasn’t one she wanted to smell, even though she was bound to someday since she lived in Minnesota.

“Wolves!” said Icea.

“Serious?” asked Kumiko, voice trembling.

“Yes, and many of them. A full pack it seems!” Said Icea with a growl.

“The pups, we need them inside.” Said Kumiko turning to get the pups, but not running until she had Icea’s approval.

“I highly doubt they’ll come here. Maybe their just hunting around the boarder. But I do advise we bring them into the den. Better to be safe then sorry.” Said Icea.

With that, Kumiko raced to the pups and summoned them inside. Of corse, Blare objected, interested in whats going on. But, Kumiko convinced her.

Icea sat in front of the edge of the woods in the back of the Valley, where it ended. There was a rustle from the rim of the bush. Icea growled loudly in a ‘back off, this is my territory’ warning. But, the noise grew louder.

Icea growled again, only for the rustling to get louder, only  moments later, two big gray wolves appearing from the brush. Icea stood up, stepping back as even more, a wave of them flooded from the brush. All the wolves seemed to be scanning behind her as she barked fiercely at them.

They all turned their attention to her, with growls of their own brewing in their stomachs. The biggest wolf, a black a white one and most likely the alpha, flicked his tail in a silencing motion. All the wolves stood still and silent. He nodded, the  approached Icea. He was much bigger, and more bulky but he didn’t look to agile.

“Hello.” he said to Icea, dipping his head.
