Blare awoke to the sound of the other pups rough-playing together.
“Never in a lifetime!” came Ivy’s voice from a distance, as she giggled.
“Of course I will!” retorted Cobalt with a growl.
“What’s going on?” came an unfamiliar voice. Blare dug back into her memory when she recalled all that had happened last night. It was Valeria. She remember the red wolf that had followed Icea and Kumiko to the Old Town.
Blare strutted out the den, jaws opening wide in a yawn.
“Hi Blare!” Said Hudson, the little brown-black lab gave a yip.
“Hi Hudson!” Blare replied, laying back down on the concrete.
“You just got up, and you’re going to lay back down?” asked Ivy, upset.
“Yes, I’m tired, I’m aloud to lay down.” Said Blare, as she finally settled onto the concrete. The cold seemed to seep into her fur.
“Okay.” Said Ivy, starting to swat at the air.
“What are you doing?” Came Cobalt, a hint of tease in his voice.
“The dust, It’s alive and getting in my eyes!” Ivy squealed in agony.
Blare could hear the buzz of the strange creature. She lifted her head, to see Ivy swatting violently in the air.
“Those are gnats.” Replied Valeria.
“Well, I don’t like g’nas.” She replied.
“Gnats.” Corrected Valeria with a swat of her paw, just missing Ivy’s face. Valeria kept swatting, “These use to be around the West Pack territory all the time.” She said, her voice hoarse with irritable tone.
“I don’t appreciate them coming around to our home!” growled Cobalt starting to swat in front of his own face.
After the gnat affair, Blare lay down, raising her eyes to see a group of three wolves sitting in a circle. It was Arrow, Leona and, Hyla.
“So, how do you think Apollo and the rest of the pack are back at home?” asked Arrow, the light grey wolf had hints of anger in the mention of the name Apollo.
“Terrible.” Said Hyla, her green hazel eyes seeming to light on fire.
“I hope they do terrible.” Said Arrow, trying to dig her claws into the city concrete.
“After Crow and Eagle died I, they were already beginning to crumble, the ground underneath Apollo being swiped from his feet, that ground being respect!” said Leona, barks and growls making their way into her statement.
“Well, anyway, we’ll fight them off if they come.” Said Hyla, in a mood of wanting to change the subject.
Blare couldn’t help but butt-in, “Whats so bad about your old pack?” she asked, tilting her head in interest.
“Well, Apollo treated us like his soldiers rather than his pack-members.” Said Valeria.
“Yes, and we couldn’t eat until he decided he was done with his part of the meal. The higher the rank, the next bit. The last to get a bite was usually the Omega, or if there were more than one, then they ate the last together. Sadly, I was an Omega so, I usually ate last.” Said Leona.
“What order was it in?” asked Blare, wagging her tail.
“Well, the alpha usually ate first. Then the Mothers and their pups. Next came high rank wolves like the Beta, and if a family member of your’s died that day, you ate with the Beta. Then, came the Battle-field wolves, then high rank hunters, then the hunters in training, then the territory guards. Last came the Omegas, and any injured wolves.” Said Hyla.
Valeria nodded, as Spade approached, head low, tail lashing.
“What is it Spade, are you tired?” asked Valeria teasingly acknowledging Spade’s appearance.
“Yes, I was just thinking about Crows death.” He said, lifting his head to the lit sky, the sun making him recoil, looking to the rest of the wolves.
“Who’s this?” He asked, jerking his head toward Blare.
“I’m Blare, Icea’s sister!” She said, wagging her tail so rapid, it looked like a robins wing in flight.
“Funny, you look nothing like Icea.” said Spade confused.
“Well, she says she is my sister, so thats the theory I will believe.” Said Blare, defending herself from anymore questions.
“Alright, Its just strange……” he said trailing off in thought.
“The way you guys live sounds so cool!” said Blare, changing the subject, turning to Valeria.
“Well, its hard, but it sure is worth it for all the respect you get from other canines.” Said Valeria, nodding her head.
“I want to be a wolf!” exclaimed Blare, now wagging her tail so fast it looked like she didn’t even have one.
“Well, I don’t believe you can… turn into a wolf… but you can train to live as one.” Said Spade, looking at Valeria.
“Well, why don’t you ask Blare?” said Valeria, looking down at Blare.
“Yes! I’m sure she wouldn’t mind, of I do hope she says yes!” yipped Blare as she began to dash off.
“She sure has the true mind of a wolf, determine. I already know she is going to do very well in training.” Said Hyla.
“She sure does!” said Leona, a deep growl of laughter echoed through the alley.
But what they didn’t know at the time, was Blare would do a lot more than that……
