Blare woke up bright, and early, ready for her first training lesson. She stretched and prodded Icea on the side.

“Icea, I’m going to see Valeria now.” She said in the quietest voice possible for her age.

“What, Blare it’s the crack of dawn, you can’t go wake her up now!” said Icea in a firm whisper.

“Aww, but I want to.” Whined Blare.

“Yea, Valeria won’t at this time.” Growled Icea. “Wait a while, until the sun is at least fully visible.”

“Okay.” Complained Blare, plopping down next to Icea.

*

It felt like forever till the sun came up, the faded looking moon sinking just as slow.

“Alright.” came Icea’s voice abruptly, startling Blare out of her fur.

“I can go now?” Blare asked.

“Yes, I just saw Spade walk by, so they must be up.” Said Icea, flicking her tail tot he exit of the makeshift nest. Blare was careful in not knocking over any boxes on her way out. Making the den fall would mean a grumpy Icea, and more work for Blare.

When she had squirmed her way out of the nest, she shook and stretched one more time, jaws widening in a yawn. Blare looked around to see Ivy and Hudson playing, and Cobalt chasing his tail.

“Ivy, do you want to train now?” asked Blare as she approached. “I’m going.” She added in.

“Okay, let me just ask my mother first.” Said Ivy with a playful wag of her tail.

Ivy ran to the big box her mother was resting in. She saw Ivy say something, only for Kumiko to reply with a hesitant nod.

Ivy pranced back over with little yips.

“Mother said yes.” She said with a benign nod.

“Then lets find Valeria!” said Blare, her eyes full of excitement.

“I think I’ve already found you.” Came a voice from behind. It was Valeria.

“Oh, hi Valeria.” said Blare and Ivy at the same time.

“Where in the alley are we training?” asked Ivy, tilting ner head.

“We aren’t training in the alley.” Said Valeria.

“Then where are we training?” asked Blare.

“Last night, I was searching for a place and I found a perfect one.” Said Valeria.

“Can we go now?” asked Blare impenitently. Her feet were itching with anticipation.

“Alright.” said Valeria starting to walk. The two little pups like shadows behind Valeria.

*

Valeria stopped dead in her tracks, sticking her nose in her air. She sniffed, then looked back down.

“Only a few more moments now.” Said Valeria.

Blare was so excited, she felt as if her heart was going to climb its way out of her throat, plop to the ground, and start spasming on the floor like a fish.

Suddenly, they came to a complete stop.

“Were here.” Said Valeria.

Ivy and Blare looked up and saw a barbed-wire fence, many feet tall, casting a netted shadow over the group. Blare looked at what was incased inside of the fence. She saw cracked concrete and bramble wrapping the bottom of the fence in a dungeon. Then, in the fence, on the concrete were painted lines, Yellow and White. Their were tall, long metal poles with net at the top.

“This is it!” said Valeria, jerking her head towards the empty space.

“Its big!” said Ivy.

“How are we supposed to get in?” asked Blare.

“Like this-“ said Valeria walking forward. The bent down and wriggled through a big hole at the bottom. “It will be eaisier or you two, since your smaller.” said Valeria with a nod.

After the two pups went through the hole, they gave yips of excitement. The area was big, and little patches of grass had grown from the little cracks in the concrete.

“So, can we start!” asked Blare, not able to eep still.

“Yes, but first I want you to do something.” Said Valeria.

“What?” asked Ivy.

Valeria began to open her mouth to say something when she growled and leapt in front of Ivy, placing her paw on her head, and lightly pushing it down. Then she backed up.

“What was that for?” asked the little pup angrily.

“When your a wolf, always have your ears alert, anything could happen at any moment.” said Valeria. “Its like living in a glass box with the glass as the threat. You can’t see it, but you know its there.” Said Valeria.

“Huh?” yipped Ivy quietly.

“You’ll understand soon.” Said Valeria.

“Now, lets actually begin.” She finished.

“Can we learn to fight first?” asked Blare.

“No, hunting first.” Said Valeria. “I’ll get Spade, and he can help us with that, he’s an expert.” Said Valeria, as she began to swiftly walk away.

“This is so exciting!” said Ivy. “We are going to be Wolves!”

“I know!” barked Valeria.

*

After a while, Spade and Valeria came noisily, padding on the concrete, then proceeding to dig at the fence, until Spade could fit through.

“Alright!” barked Spade happily. “Lets begin hunting. Just sit quietly for a moment.” He said. After a short while, a chatter came from the left corner.

“Slowly turn your head” said Spade through gritted teeth, trying to make it as quiet as possible.

Valeria and Ivy turned their heads, Blare following.

“It’s a squirrel.” Said Ivy, trying to keep her voice low and less yippee as possible.

“I think its stuck.” Said Blare, she said excitingly.

“So do I!” said Valeria.

“Blare,” began Spade.

“What do you think you should do?”

“I don’t know.” Admitted Blare.

“Whale, try, go close to the squirrel and see if you can kill it.” He urged encouragingly.

Blare quickly crept upon the squirrel, ears raised. She then clumsily ran at it. The squirrel fidgeted, but couldn’t escape, only setting scratches upon himself. Blare then slammed her paw down hard on it, cracking its neck.

“Good work, and luck.” Said Spade, approaching.

“Thank you!” said Blare, unable to contain herself.

“Thats no normal luck though, so don’t get used to it being that easy.” Said Spade.

Blare nodded. This was it, the beginning of a new life.
