The thing that Max noticed from the first morning with Joy was that he had a very long morning routine.

It started off with a shower with music playing in the background throughout the whole routine, then he took care of his face with all the products he used, he then did his makeup and that was Max's favorite part to watch and finally he styled his hair.

Max had finished his routine long ago, probably when Joy was taking a shower.

"Are we in the same class?" Joy asked when he was finally done with getting ready.

"I'm class 2B." Max said.

"Oh hey, I'm 2B too." Joy said cheerfully. Max smiled by default when he saw happy Joy.

"Are we gonna head out?" Max said as he stood up.

"Sure. Lemme get my backpack." Joy grabbed his baby blue backpack from his bed and followed Max out.

When they stepped out all eyes were on them. Almost everyone looked shocked, most probably due to Joy looking very different from what they had imagined.

"Not so tough looking now are ya pretty boy?" The same bully that hated Max stepped in front of them. His name, or moreso nickname everyone called him by was Meat. Which suited him very much considering he was all meat, literally. He was a big guy. Short, but very bulky.

"Who said so?" Joy raised his eyebrow confidently.

"I can see it." Meat replied.

"All you see is not all you get. So you better watch out." Joy said with a threatening tone. Max admired Joy at that moment so much, he couldn't stop staring.

"Uuu, I'm scared." Meat faked as he flailed his arms around.

Joy just looked Meat up and down with a stoic face and snickered. "I see why." He said.

"Wanna fight princess?" Meat took a step towards Joy but he didn't move from his spot.

"I'd rather not be that petty." Joy said seriously.

"I know you're afraid from me." Meat smiled evilly.

Then Joy did something unexpected. He took Meat's arm and twisted it backwards.

"Argh, okay. Point proven. Let me go." Meat couldn't even last a second and cried to be freed.

Joy let go as told and Meat stumpled a few steps away. He turned back to look at Joy, then it seemed like he finally saw Max and smirked at him before he walked away.

"That was awesome." Max told Joy.

"Thanks." They continued walking to their classroom. The boys they passed on their way all stared, now probably knowing what happened.

"How do you know how to fight?" Max asked.

"I learned a few fighting techniques from a friend. He knew how to fight and boy was he good." For Max it seemed like that friend Joy spoke about must've been important to him.

"Are you still friends?" Max wanted to know more about Joy and he felt like he could ask.

"No." Joy paused. "He died."

"Oh, I'm sorry I asked. I didn't know." Max now felt bad about asking. "You don't need to answer anything if you don't want to, I'm sorry if I'm pushy." He felt like he went a little too far now.

"Oh no, don't worry about that. It's okay. And don't be afraid to ask." Joy shook his head and hands.

Max didn't know what to answer so he stayed quiet.
