"Mom, can I have some money?" I walk up to my mom and ask her. There's no food in this damn box we live in. And my stomach isn't happy about it.
"I don't have any. Maybe ,you'd have some if you had a job." She says without looking at me as she continues to look through her purse for something.
She should find some humanity while she's at it. Oh and maybe some love for her only son. And- I should just stop because we'll be here all day.
I decide to just grab my jacket and go out. Every second spent in there with her takes a year out of my life.
As I walk around I keep thinking that maybe she's right to some degree. I'm 21, college isn't an option, so I might as well get a job. But who'd want a high school dropout to work for them?
"Hey Sunny!" I raise my head and see the face of none other than Bailey himself. And wow, he looks even better in daylight.
"Oh, hi. Is this a coincidence or?"
"Actually, I was on my way to look for you. Sammy told me where you live." He smiles as though happy he found me. I'm mad though.
"Sammy told you?" I let out a frustrated breath.
"Was that...not okay?" I shouldn't get mad at Bailey, he doesn't know. But I've told Sammy that I don't want people to know where I live. And...ugh.
"No. It's fine. It's not your fault. I'll talk to Sammy. Let's go." I continue walking.
"Where?" Good question.
"Just follow me." I know where I'll take him.
We arrive fairly quick to the place.
"A lake?" He asks.
"The fun part is that it's frozen. And even more fun is that you can easily break ghe ice since it's thin." I talk as i try and find a nice, big rock.
"Okay?" He watches me as I pick up a round rock and throw it at the lake with all my might. It smashes against the ice and it breaks right through it with a splash in the water.
"This is fun?" Bailey is still confused.
"The key is to throw harder, not further. So it can make a bigger hole and splash more." I ignore his question.
"Okay. I guess I'll try." He grabs a random rock and repeats what I did. This time the ice cracks more and some water splashed even on us.
"Did you see that?" His eyes go wide with excitement.
"See? I told you this is more fun than it sounds. This is a nice way to release anger."
And we continued to form holes into the ice until our arms went numb from the cold and we were breathless.
"I already know that I'll catch a cold." Bailey says, hugging himself and shivering.
"I didn't know we'd be doing this so long. Sorry."
"Nah, don't worry. I'm a big boy." His words strongly contradict his shivering figure.
"Anyway, when do the others finish with classes?" He asks.
"I think they should be done about now. Sammy will call me."
"Do you wanna come and wait at Sammy's house? They can join us when they get back. Plus, we can drink some tea to warm up." He offers with a warm smile. And shit, I can't resist a smile like that.
"Sure."
***
"Here's your tea." Bailey places my cup on the table and sits down next to me.
