Two weeks later, Denise set us up on a double date, with Harry and Niall.
We went out to the movies before I suggested we go to a club; I figured it would be nice to let loose, and Niall had stopped drinking like he was a few weeks ago. I had noticed a huge change in him ever since that night we talked about Louis. I think he had finally come to terms with the fact that Louis was dead, and no matter how harsh it sounded, his best friend was never coming back.
He was finally living his life again, and it was amazing to see.
“Stop it,” I giggled when Niall pressed another kiss to my cheek, just as our waiter had returned. The music playing from the stereos was in the background; we went to a bar right next to a club, since I figured we should get some drinks into our system before we actually hit the club.
“You two make me sick,” Denise teased, sitting as closely as possible to Harry. Strangely, I had never seen the two do anything except hold hands. I knew Denise was modest, and she hated PDA with a passion, but it was just strange that Harry didn’t at least try. In fact, he seemed in pretty deep thought tonight, and I made it my personal goal to loosen him up, too.
“Look, I can’t blame you for being jealous.” I teased her back with a wide smirk as Niall and I intertwined our fingers together.
Denise scoffed playfully. “Jealous of what?”
“Of your sister’s dashingly good looking boyfriend.” Niall chimed in with his own grin, wrapping an arm snugly around my shoulders. God, I was already looking forward to dancing; I had missed dancing with Niall - god knows there aren’t any other dancing partners I could find like him. Niall wasn’t the best dancer; okay, actually, he was terrible, but I found it cute.
I sure as hell wasn’t embarrassed.
“I take offense to that.” Harry added with a slight grin. His eyes were trained however on Niall and I’s intertwined hands, which were sitting comfortably on the table.
“You don’t need to,” Denise mumbled to him, placing her hand on his elbow, which was like the equivalent of me placing my hand on Niall’s crotch in public. It was a big deal.
However, Harry subtly moved out of Denise’s range, scooting just a little away from her. It was such a subtle move that not even she had noticed it, but I did. Our eyes locked for a moment, but he only offered a small smile.
Yeah. He definitely needed to loosen up tonight.
We all had a round of a few shots before I had to use the bathroom, so I excused myself, and Denise jumped at the chance to be excused. I knew instantly that she needed to talk to me about something, so as soon as we got in the bathroom, I whirled on her with an eyebrow cocked and told her to spill. Her cheeks instantly turned red.
“Okay, so I was planning on, you know, having some fun tonight.” She muttered.
I laughed, “There’s no need to be bashful about it! Harry’s hot - you really need to get on that.”
“Yeah, I know. It’s just so weird sometimes to think that someone like him would want someone like me.” Denise admitted, shyly tugging on the end of her sleeve. This instantly reminded me of all the times my sister had confessed her self consciousness to me, like the time before her dance, when she was embarrassed to go out with her shoulders bare to where everyone could see her. She was unbelievably honest, and it was cute, but she needed to get her sexy on - for Harry.
“You’re fucking beautiful,” I said sternly, pointing my finger at her. “And don’t you forget it, okay? Harry’s lucky to have someone like you.”
