Wednesday afternoon was a sad afternoon.

Niall and I went to Louis' flat in an attempt to make him feel better. See, Louis' girlfriend, Eleanor, had just broken up with him. They had been dating for over a year now, and anyone could see that Louis was deeply in love with her. I used to think that she loved him too but evidently that wasn't true.

I made Louis a batch of brownies, and Niall went out and bought all of the Ghostbusters movies; which were Louis' favorite movie series ever (Louis was a fan of Bill Murray).

Normally Louis was the preppy one; usually he was the one who cheered people up. That was why it was such a huge deal to see him down, since he never seemed to be down.

Anyway, Niall and I desperately tried to cheer Louis up, and he would chuckle or smile painfully at a few things, but he just wasn't Louis.

"Maybe we should give him time to be alone," I whispered to Niall at one point when we were alone. Niall looked physically upset; Louis was after all his closest friend.

"Nobody wants to be alone in a time like this," Niall said, and I silently disagreed but didn't push it.

When we walked back out to the living room, Louis had his head buried in his hands. I hoped to god he wasn't crying because I never knew what to do when stuff like that happened.

"I just don't understand," Louis whispered, his voice broken and unstable, which was highly unusual. "We seemed so perfect a week ago. How could she fell out of love with me that quickly?"

Niall and I glanced at each other with sympathetic looks.

"Sometimes feelings change," Niall said gently, sitting next to Louis. "Sometimes the candle just...goes out - like that. It doesn't mean she doesn't care about you; doesn't she still want to be your friend?"

Louis nodded. "Yeah, but I can't do that. How could she expect me to be her friend after everything we've been through?"

"I'm sorry she hurt you," I said softly. "But at least she isn't lying to your face about how she feels. Wouldn't you rather it be this way than her saying that she loved you for months without meaning it?"

"I guess so."

"Them believe it or not, she did the right thing. She just didn't want to hurt you anymore. Someday you'll meet a girl who will never fall out of love with you; you'll find a girl who loves every single thing about you - a girl you would do absolutely anything for."

"I don't want to think of any girl. What if all I want is her?"

"That'll change. After a few days you'll start to realize that a breakup can be a good thing. I'm not saying that El is a bad person, but you'll realize that she just wasn't right for you. You'll make room for someone else, and that's always a good thing."
