This is five weeks after Eddie went over to Bev's. He has gotten his life back on track and Richie is now a chef at his own restraunt. Eddie quit his job as a physical trainer and moved into a studio apartment. They are now at Bev's reception after her wedding. All the Losers flew in for it and at the moment Eddie is getting cake.
Eddie
I grabbed a slice of cake and a plastic forks and walked over to a seat. I sat down and took a small forkful and plopped it into my mouth. After a few more forkfuls I heard a familiar voice.
"Eddie?" Richie said softly. "Mind if I sit here?" He gestured to the seat on the other side of the table.
"No of course not. Help yourself." I said, with a smile. It was bittersweet to heard his voice again.
"It's been a long time huh?"
"Sure has. How are you doing?"
"Pretty good. I have a decent paying job and a nice small house. I have all my medical bills paid finally after staying in the hospital for years. I also opened up a restaurant, you should come visit sometime." He chuckled.
"That's great! I'm glad to hear your on your feet." I said, genuinely glad.
"How have you been?"
"I bought a nice studio apartment about an hour away from here and I'm now a bartender at a club downtown."
"Oh, sounds like your doing pretty good." He said, a hint of some emotion that I couldn't figure out in his voice.
"Richie...."
"Hm?"
"I miss you."
"I miss you too." He smiled.
"Wanna dance?" I asked, standing up.
"Sure."
We walked over to the makeshift dance floor and we grabbed each other's waists. We swayed back in forth for a second.
"Hey Ed's?" Richie said quietly.
"Don't call me that." I murmured, looking into his big chocolate brown eyes.
He chuckled, "Sorry, um can I ask you a question?"
"It's alright, rich. The nickname is actually something I missed after we...well what happened." I sighed, not wanting to admit it.
He grinned, "Really?"
"Yeah." I huffed. The smile stayed plastered on his face. I gave a small smile.
Then we stayed dancing together in comfortable silence. My feet soon got tired and I started to get a headache.
"I'm gonna go outside for fresh air, come if you want." I sighed, walking out the doors to the balcony.
I leaned against the railing and sighed, looking out at the little town surrounding us. I could smell smoke from a smoker downstairs. I closed my eyes and just listened to the noise. I heard a breeze come through. I heard crickets. I heard laughter. I heard a fireplace going. I heard-
Richie cleared his throat. My eyes flickered open and I looked over at him. His hands were in his pockets and his hair was not as gelled back because of him continuously running his fingers through it.
"You okay?" Richie asked, concern evident in his eyes. I shook my head.
"I feel like something is wrong." Just as I said that I got a call.
"Hello?" I put the phone up to my ear after clicking accept.
"Ah, Eddie my boy. How are you?" I heard a husky - most likely drunk voice - almost scream through the phone.
"What are you doing on Mom's phone?" I seethed.
"I'm good, thanks for asking," he ignored my question. "How's it going down there with your boyfriend? That's right, I knew you were gay. You like b-o-y-s. How many times did I tell you it's unacceptable. Clearly your mom never tried to change the screwed up little mind of yours. So I taught her a lesson. She's here with me in the Derry Hospital if you wanted to see her. While I was screaming at her, she had a damn heart attack. Can you believe that? She's gotta be shitting me."
"Is she okay? I'm coming to see her right now. And no Dad. I'm not with my boyfriend. Because if you actually bothered to keep up with my life, you would know he dumped me about a month a half ago!" I yelled. I glanced over at Richie and he had hurt in his eyes. I tried to not think about it too much.
I dismissed the call and turned to Richie. "Sorry about that. But I got to go."
"Want me to come?"
"No, it'll be alright."
"Well, will you be okay?"
I nodded. But my emotions said otherwise. I huge tear rolled down my cheek and I frowned.
I need a hug. Actually I just need someone to talk to. I've kept everything pent up for too long.
As if Richie had read my mind he closed the four feet that were between us and wrapped me in a warm embrace. I rested my head against his chest and held him tight. He rested his chin on top of my head and rubbed soothing circles into my back.
