Awaken, Chapter 1

Shiori yawned as she sat up to peer around her surroundings.

"Something is not right... The animals around us have been restless. What is going on? And these damn dreams...." Shiori spoke softly to herself trying not to wake Sasuke.

Shiori felt eyes on her and smiled softly as she let her mind drift into memories. She no longer became alarmed by the eyes on her as she always got that feeling and figured it was probably Itachi checking on them.

When Itachi massacred their clan, she was spared in order to care for Sasuke and help lead him on his path towards ultimate destruction. She had developed a relationship with Kakashi Sensei over the years she had been there as she was only a couple years younger than him. He would tell her so many stories about his past and would let his emotions show as he would talk about the things that haunted him most. Shiori always listened despite Sasuke telling her he got bad feelings about him. Sasuke had been in the kitchen cooking Shiori and himself breakfast when he heard her footsteps knowing she was awake.

"Hey! Shiori, get your ass out here. I made eggs." Sasuke yelled out to his sister (he thought of her like an older sister even though they weren't actually brother and sister. She was the only one Sasuke would let near him besides Itachi when they were younger.

"Okay, okay, thank you Sasuke." Shiori teased as she walked out of the room towards the kitchen.

She sat down at the table as they ate their eggs. She smiled seeing him get up to do the dishes.

"You know, I can do those when I get home tonight?" Shiori asked gently to the young shinobi.

"No, that's okay. I can get them done now so we can relax tonight. Are you going to see Kakashi sensei again?" He asked a bit bitter at the end.

"Yes, Sasuke. Are you going out as well?" Shiori responded without letting his harsh tone get to her.

He softened a bit and nodded.

"I have a mission to go protect a few farmers in the forbidden forest." He responded as she stood up to walk towards him.

"I love you Sasuke, please be safe out there." Shiori spoke with a sincere loving smile upon her lips.

"I love you too, Shiori. Take care of yourself today." Sasuke responded pulling her into a close hug.

She hugged him back and they stayed that way for a couple of minutes.

"You never want to hug that long, Sasuke. Something on your mind dear?" She asked concerned.

Sasuke looked away but took her hand and led her to their couch to sit by him.

He showed her his neck where there was a curse mark.

"Oh sasuke... Orochimaru got you didn't he?" She asked softly which took him by surprise.

"You're not.. Upset, sis?" Sasuke asked confused.

"I am upset he bit you... But not at you. I'm sure you did everything you could." She said with a smile planted across her lips.

He smiled back at her and hugged her tightly for a minute.

"Thank you, Shiori. You are the best. He offered me power... Immense power if I went with him..." Sasuke continued to speak.

Shiori's smile instantly left and turned into shock and anger.

"Don't take it! He is only after your eyes. You know this! Don't be foolish. He will not give you power you cannot find through the village, Sasuke. I made a vow I would protect you." Shiori spoke as her voice raised a bit.
