CHAPTER 9
When I knew I was talking to 'the' Benjamin Ferguson, I stopped going to the practice room.
Days passed and it was time for dance practice again. Was I ready to face you? Absolutely not.
After practice, everyone went out of the room and went home as the sky grew darker.
Eugene cursed a little when it started to drizzle. She took too long tidying her stuff and now that it was raining, she couldn't walk back home. Not to mention her brother was busy with college today.
She sighed as she sat at the school's lobby staircase, while playing on her phone until a car stopped in front of her. The window was rolled down and there sat Ben on the driver's seat.
"Hop in! I'll give you a ride!"
Eugene stayed quiet, before replying a soft, "It's okay. I—"
Ben didn't even let her finish, as he got out of the car, took her bags and drag her slowly to the car. He opened the passenger door for her like a gentleman.
"It wasn't an offer,so get in," He said softly, although it sounded more aggressive than he thought.
Eugene couldn't refuse and besides, it looked like the rain wouldn't stop any time soon.
I was nervous, I admit. Even though I wasn't one of those girls who were head over heals for you, my heart can't help but flutter due to your actions.
"What's your address?" Ben asked, breaking the silence between them.
Eugene then replied softly and it went silent once again, until Ben spoke. "Are you usually this quiet?"
"With new people? Yeah." She answered without even looking at the boy.
"But I'm not 'new' though? We talked before. Are you scared? Am I scary?"
"...Intimidating, yes," She answered truthfully.
"Ah, you didn't think it was me? I understand that. And I also understand if you don't want to talk to me after this. I mean, who would want to talk to a bad boy like me?"
"what do you mean?"
"Everyone thinks I'm just a naughty rebel at school. All I had were my close friends," Ben started. "When I saw that little hi on the board, I thought I finally got an opportunity to talk and maybe become friends with someone. I tried to be nice and it worked. It was as if we were friends. That's why I wanted to stay anonymous so badly."
"But you're...popular," Eugene trailed off.
"Popular doesn't mean you have many friends," He said, and showed her a bitter smile.
I didn't know you felt that way, but thank you for opening up to me because since that day, I saw you as someone different. Someone better.
