Chapter 13
My mom was an angel? How? I thought she didn’t know why Parker could fly? She acted like she was going crazy. Wouldn’t she have healed already too? I was completely confused and Avery was too.
“What?” I asked shocked.
“Well, Parker came to the hospital after your dad left one night. I tried screaming but I couldn’t. He talked to me. He told me that if I wanted to become a better person I could become an angel. I thought I was hallucinating but he told me I wasn’t. He took his wing, and burned my side with the imprint.” She told us all, our mouths hanging wide open. She lifted her shirt so we could see the imprint. Avery lifted his shirt to reveal a white one. My mom’s was skin color. Was she a dark angel? Avery happened to read my thoughts.
“No, she isn’t a dark angel. But she does have to choose what she wants to be. She could be dark or light. She has to talk to the Angel Mistresses and they will decide.” Avery told us.
“And how does she do that?” My dad asked. He seemed to be slightly understanding on what was happening but he was still utterly confused.
“She goes to heaven. She has to pray to the mistresses and they will answer. They will probably bring just her spirit up to them. They will ask her questions and they will decide where she goes.” Avery said. I was shaking, scared, and the room seemed to have a billion pound elephant in the room. No one spoke for a few minutes.
“Is Parker a dark angel?” My mom broke the silence.
Avery looked nervous. I am not sure he is supposed to tell her this stuff. “Yes he is. I am a light angel. The thing is, now that you are an angel, it is a rare chance you will end up on earth. They might kill your body, and keep your spirit, whether you are dark or light. That’s why most angels die before they become angels, you just happened to be marked.” I let out a little yelp. I didn’t want my mom to die! Parker can’t just break my family! Why are dark angels even here! They have no point on earth! Again Avery read my mind.
“Dark angels do have a purpose, Charlotte. They are on earth and in heaven to kill people. They cause death, and make the earth less populated. It is a bad and good thing. They are trained to be heartless and sometimes mean so they aren’t sad when they are killing others.” Oh fantastic, they are made to kill. Even better.
“So how do I pray to these ‘Angel Mistresses’” My mom said with attitude. I could tell she was scared and unhappy but she knew she needed to do it. My dad was just standing there. After my mom went on her visit to heaven, Avery and I were going to have to explain it to him. My mind was going crazy right now but I didn’t have time to flip out; I needed to pay attention and help my mom. She should choose to be light, although it isn’t her decision.
“I will set it up.” Avery said, walking away, giving me a head nod that meant to follow him. I followed him. He told me to find some candles. They should be white since we wanted her to become a light angel. I found six small ones and two big ones underneath one of my kitchen cabinets. When I found Avery in our living room, he had a white blanket on the floor, a weird, yet cool, pattern done with silk thread around the blanket, and a bunch of tiny circles done with white rocks. The lights were turned off and it was really dark in the room. The only light came from one window.
“Block all the light coming in please and hand me those candles.” I did as he told me to do and then my mother and father came in.
“Please sit,” He said pointing to the middle of the blanket. My mom sat. My dad looked nervous. Avery took each candle one but one, and lit them. He placed them in the little rock circles, while chanting a little song in another language. Maybe Latin? I wasn’t sure. After the dark room has candles lighting up the white circle, the room glowed. Not only from the candles, but something seemed to be in the room, making it brighter. The candle flames wavered, and my mom looked tired. I hoped I wasn’t going to lose my mom.
“Mom, no matter if you are dark or light, or if I never see you again, I love you. Okay?” I told here as a tear slipped down my cheek. My dad was crying.
“I love you Honey. Don’t forget me.” He whispered to her and he gave her a peck on the cheek.
“Okay. Please repeat after me Mrs. Lawrence,” He ordered my mom,” Angel Mistresses, Take me in your arms. Help me choose a path, forever and always.” Avery yelled. My mom yelled it after him. This whole thing was going so fast, and so crazy, and it felt although it was a dream.
“I choose to be a light Angel, leaders forever, helping guide the humans of earth.” Avery continued to chant, my mom repeating his words. Avery was making hand signals. He stood up, his wings opened, and he flapped them causing wind to gust through.
At this point, Avery was screaming over the loud wind, “I love humans, and I want to help them. Should I be light? Mistresses, help me please!” As my mom repeated his words, yelling as loud as she could with her hoarse voice, she passed out. Avery, my dad, and I ran over to her. Avery checked her pulse.
“She is still alive, but that might change soon.” He whispered, taking in his wings, and letting out a sigh. I was still silently crying but I helped him carry my mom over to out couch. My dad turned on a light and blew out the candles. Avery told him to leave everything that was white in the room. We waited minutes, although it seemed like hours before I saw my mom’s eyes twitch.
