Today was actually a really good day so far, I came to work early visited some of my patients and I'm even going to be helping in sugary today!! But it's still morning so I don't want to jinx it. The surgery's with Parker and I'm so pumped so show him my "surgical skills" I say it like that because this is indeed my first surgery and I'm betting that Parker is going to to something smart about it that I'll smack him about later. The only thing is that this is one of the most risky surgery's. It's going to be with Kali our stage 4 cancer patient, she's been here for awhile and Peter thinks there's still a chance the Chemotherapy shrunk the cancer down slowly so Peter thinks he can get it out before it can get worse. Peter and I have been in the library for at least 2 hours talking about how this procedure is going to go and what I should be doing.
"Alright L/N this is your first surgery and I expect you to be on your best behavior got it?" He asks.
"Peter I'm not 5 years old ok, and hey I'm always on my best behavior!" I say to him with an annoyed look.
"Yikes if this is your best behavior I'm going to have to get another intern on this." He's laughs, as I punch is shoulder and laugh.
"Ok let's go through this one last time though." He says abruptly before reading out the procedure for like the 12th time. Basically we are going to open her up and find the tumor, we can cut out anything that's too in there because if we make an error we could damage part of her brain permanently. After Parker's done we have a break and I go to check up on Kali.
I knock on her door and let myself in. She's in her wheelchair that we have her in looking out of the window.
"I though I still have 2 hours." She says.
"You do I just wanted to check up on you, it's a very big day for you." I say with a laugh slightly. She doesn't say anything. Which is kinda odd because she loves talking.
I take a quick look at her chart, reading through everything double checking blah blah bla- wait WHAT THE HELL?!
"DNR?! Kali are you serious?!" I exclaim loudly. She doesn't say anything until.
"If it's my time then it's my time Y/l and it's been too long, I'm tired and I've had enough." She says quietly.
"But Kali what about your friends, family? If you code even once, we can't do anything but watch you die." I say trying to convince her.
"Y/l enough I made up my decision now please let me be." She says pointing to the door. I stomp out of her room. I'm not going to let her do this, she's become one of my close friends and I'm not just going to let her die! Right in front of me! I walk back to the library I can feel my face getting red in anger. Peter must have known about this!
I march right back to where Peter is. "You knee didn't you!" I said semi-loud, some people turned and looked at me. Peter looks up at me in confusion, a few seconds went by until his face showed he understood what I meant. He got up from the ground and started to walk out of the library.
"Follow me now." He says calmly and angry. I kinda regret this, but I need him to think for a minute and change Kali's mind. We walk into a janitors closet and face each other.
"You can't let her do this! You have to do something to change her mind." I exclaimed.
"Dr.L/N we can't interfere in our patients decisions! It's theirs to make not us we have no right to question them!" He almost yells.
"Peter you know damn well we can't let our friend-" he cuts me off.
"Y/N stop you were the one to make the decision to label her as a friend you should have never made that mistake! You never ever consider your patients best friends that is where you fucked up!" He yells at me. I can't believe this who the hell does he think he is! I glare at him for a good solid five minutes. I slam the door open and it accidentally hits the wall. I don't care! I'm making sure that Nothing goes wrong in this surgery.

Time skip 2 hours

I'm rolling Kali through the hospital to the surgery, we have to take the elevator and this is my chance. The elevator doors close and I let it all out.
"Kali please take back the DNR please! This is brain surgery and people code sometimes and we can save them instantly but if you keep the DNR then we can't even take one chance of helping you! Please Kali you are one of my friends and I at least want the opportunity to save your life if you need me!" Kali is just sitting there thinking.
"Y/n enough, I'm tired and if I go I go and you can't change my mind and neither can Parker!" He yells as tears start to fall from her eyes. Wait what? Peter talked to her? When?
"When did Peter talk to you about it?" I ask.
"Ugh the moment I signed the DNR and then again 20 minutes after you yelled at me." She said annoyed.
Oh my god. He talked to her first and still let me yell at him, and talked to her again after. I thought he was such an asshole, god I feel horrible! The elevator door opens and Peter was right there as it opens. I feel so bad I don't even think I can look at him. I look down while wheeling Kali to the surgical room. I can feel Peters eyes on me, look up slightly and he looks normal but his eyes look so sad. The surgery is about to begin.
"Kali this is going to work, you are going to wake up again do you understand me?" I whisper to Kali while she's under. Peter can see me do this and chuckles.
"Of course she is Dr.L/n, now everyone it's a beautiful day to save lives." He says as he cuts open her head.

My legs are killing and Parker is only 1/3 of the way done. I'm still optimistic and I can't wait to rub it in Kali's face when she wakes up. I can tell that Peter's getting tired but doesn't lose focus, I should help him.
"So can you explain to me what we're doing?" I ask. He looks at me then looks back down, I can see him smile through the mask.
"Well-" Peter stops. "Shit, the MRI didn't read all of the tumor, this thing is huge!" He says loudly. Everyone goes silent while Peter thinks.
"We're closing her up, come back with another strategy to deal with this-" Kali's heartbeat monitor shows to pulse, she's flatlining.
"Damn it!" Peter yells, he starts to resuscitate Kali but one of the nurses starts to talk.
"Dr. Parker she signed the DNR you can't do that sir!" She says worried.
"To hell with the DNR we were so close I can do it if we just have more time!" He yells back. He looks at me with the fear in his eyes and I'm just sitting here, I feel my eyes welding with tears.
"Dr. Parker this is not what you are supposed to do! You are a doctor so start acting like one!" Fury says that bursting into the room. Really someone paged Fury are you kidding me!
"Chief please we can get this out and save her life if we just do this now!" I plead. He looks at me with anger.
"Peter let the patient go!" Fury says. Peter looks at me and I look back at him in horror as he stops resuscitating. I look at the ground for a few moments, I busted my way out of the room. They're just going to let her die! What the fuck!? Peter just didn't do anything! I can't fucking do this.

Why am I stopping? Why? Y/n left and my legs feel numb. I look up to fury.
"Call it." He said. I look down to Kali's face, I've had many people die on me. This is different though she's making things different.
I sigh and look up at the clock.
"Time of death 11:55 p.m." I say lowly glaring at Fury and walking out taking off my gloves and mask roughly. Fury walks into the room as I stare into the operating room right at Kali.
"This is my O.R. Fury." I say lowly with anger.
"Kid, she signed DNR that stands for Do NOT Resuscitate come on Peter." Fury says leaning over the sink looking down.
"Fury I could've save her if you would've just let me, and I don't care that your my boss if I say I'm going to save a patient I'm going to save them and never yell at me in my OR again." I say walking out. Fury and I fight like this sometimes he won't fire me even if I tried, he thinks I have the most potential. Oh shit... Y/N!
