Flying alone: Chapter One
Today was the day, the moment I have been waiting for; I knew it was going to be a big step, but for Noah I would take that chance. Today I flying by myself for the first time ever to Harvard, it made my stomach turn thinking about it as I imagined myself fifty feet in the air with nothing but a seatbelt to protect me.
Lee offered to drive me over to the airport, I could tell he was being a little paranoid but kept his cool as we pulled up to the airport.
"You're really about to do this," he muttered looking over at me with a slight smile on his face, I nodded and tried making myself look more confident then how I was feeling.
"I'll be fine Lee," I reassured him; this calmed him a little, but as a plane flew over us creating a loud swoosh sound, all doubt washed over him again.
We both got out his car; he held my hand as I clenched the other against my suitcase, dragging it along the asphalt and inside.
"Elle Evans," I told a women sat at the front desk. She had muddy blonde hair that was tied up into a bun, she had glasses on and underneath I could tell she had very tired eyes.
"Take a left and go straight down," she said, not taking her eyes off the screen. We thanked her and walked in the direction she instructed, Lee never left my side for the whole time.
"Make sure to tell Noah I said Hi when you get there," he added, I nodded and we both sat down on one of the unoccupied seats the airport provided.
We both sat there talking for half an hour until a lady on the loud speaker called out my flight; Lee sprung up off the bench and looked down at me.
"I guess this is goodbye," he said sadly; I gingerly got up and with tears in my eyes.
"Don't make This cheesy enough as it already is," I snapped with tears streaming down my face like a waterfall, he pulled me into a hug.
"Text me everyday and night until it's time for you to come home and that is an order." I fake saluted to his demand, making him chuckle before I walked away.
"Good evening." The staff greeted one by one as I walked down the narrow hallway with other people trailing along infront or behind me. The nerves started kicking in as I entered, knowing it was going to be a wild ride.
"Name?" Asked one of the flight attendants, she had a friendly smile on her face, which comforted me slightly. I told her and she nodded, taking me to my seat.
"Don't worry, this flight will be quick and easy." She told me, I think she noticed that I was feeling a bit paranoid about the whole situation. I thanked her and she walked off.
The plane didn't take off for about ten minutes, adding an extra five as it got ready to go down the runway. It threw me back into the seat as take off was happening, I could hear a few people infront of me cheer slightly.
"Please remain in your seats." Warned the person on the loud speaker, everyone didn't dare move.
"Try to focus, try to focus." I told myself out loud, I tried not to pay attention to the fact that I was now off the ground and miles high up in the school, I started questioning how people can do this for fun and not get scared. Adrenaline junkies, I thought to myself, that's why people go bungee jumping; the adrenaline.
For the whole few hours I was on the plane I was trying my hardest to distract myself by how I was going to surprise Noah, I haven't yet told him that I was coming here.
"We are getting ready to land, please remain in your seats with seatbelts on." The loud speaker announced, a wave of relief hit me like a bullet knowing I was going to be nice and safe on the ground, closer to Noah. My cheeks flustered thinking about him, I missed him so much.
We landed and I grabbed my suitcase before catching a ride from a uber, knocking on the window of blue vehicle. A man with caucasian descent rolled down the window, he looked tired but was still able to keep a smile on his face."Do you know the way to Harvard?" I asked with hope in my eyes, he nodded and let me in. I thanked him and sat in the front seat, placing my suitcase in the back. He pulled out the space he had parked in; driving to the exit and taking a left.
He drove down a dirt path road for twenty minutes before pulling up to a massive structure, I was finally at Harvard. I smiled and handed the guy a ten, before walking out and shutting the door; grabbing my suitcase and dragging it across the pavement. It was really late at night, so the only thing on my mind right now was sleep. I found my way into the reception, where a middle aged women was sat writing some papers. When she noticed me she put down the papers and opened her laptop, typing away.
"Name?" She asked sounding a bit hushed and exhausted, I don't blame her though; it was three in the morning.
"Elle Evans," I smiled trying to cheer up the dead atmosphere she had around her, she sniffed in response and carried on typing. I heard the sound of a printer turning on as she swung her chair around to grab a set of keys and whatever she was printing out, I assumed it was my timetable.
"You're room and keys are here, you don't need to worry about going to classes or anything until tuesday." Today was sunday, or saturday night so it gave me two days to settle in. I thanked her and followed the directions to my room, it was very straightforward and I was able to find it quickly.
Pushing the key into the lock and swinging the door open, it was a nice room with two double beds, a tv, bathroom and sitting room. I saw my roommate passed out on the sofa, it seemed she had already made herself at home with all of belongings scattered across the floor. I quietly made my way over to my bed, praying to god I didn't wake her up. After all I didn't want to get into war with her on the first day.
I quickly texted Lee that I was here, before kicking shoes off and falling onto my bed. Drifting off into dreamland in only a few seconds of laying there.
