Chapter 2

PRESENT TIME

TOM'S POV

It's my Junior year in college and nothing has changed. I'm still the nerd that everyone turns to when they need help for homework. It's not that bad, I don't get bullied or anything, I just get teased cause I don't have a girlfriend yet.

Girls have always told me that I'm pretty good looking but my confidence level is not that high. I guess I'm just not in the mood to have a girlfriend at the moment, I'm focusing on school and family.

I'm lucky that I got a full scholarship, barely anyone gets it and I'm pretty popular because of that.

It's not that I'm poor or anything, my family has money but I didn't want to use it, I wanted to prove everyone that I can get anywhere without the help of my parents and their ok with it.

My brother Anthony or Tony as I call him, look up to me and he's only a year younger than me. We both go to the same college and he has a player reputation as everyone in his class puts it. He's smart just like me but we're the total opposite when it comes to girls. He doesn't stay with one girl for a week and I'm a one-woman kind of guy.

I'm waiting for that one girl that takes my breathe away. A girl that has a great personality and doesn't care about what other people think of her. I want a girl that's out there, one that I can talk bout anything with. I want a girl that becomes my friend first and doesn't judge me for who I am.

I know it's hard to find a girl like that but there's nothing wrong with wishing for one.

It's really weird for a 21 year old guy in college to stay inside his dorm room and not go to bars every chance he has.

My friends keep telling me that I'm not gonna find a girl if I don't go out and interact with them, so for some reason I am now at the local bar with my friends.

I'm really not having a good time because it's not my thing to do but I'll give it a try and hopefully I will find that one girl.

My friend, Joe, introduced me to Kathy and she's pretty cool but not my type. 

"Having a good time Tom?"

"Not really, this is not my kind of thing"

"Then what is your "kind of thing"? Kathy asked me.

"Chilling at my dorm and maybe doing some homework, wow I sound like a nerd"

"Haha, you're pretty cute for a nerd and you're different from the other guys"

"Thanks I guess"

"Welcome, wanna get out of here?"

"Sure let's go to the cafe across the street"

We hung out for an hour and I now have a new friend. I told her in the beginning that I only see her as a friend and she agreed with me cause I'm not her type. 

She agreed to stay friends and help me find the one for me.  

As I was walking back to the campus, I bumped into a girl and caught her before she fell to the ground. 

"Sorry" we both said at the same time and looked up. My breathe got caught and all I could do was stare at her. 

"Thanks, you can let me go now" She told me and I felt myself blush.

"Oh yeah umm sorry bout bumping into you" I helped pick up her stuff and offered to carry them for her because it was pretty heavy.

When we got to her dorm room I gave her stuff back to her.

"Thanks, I'm Julia"

"No problem it's the best I can do after bumping into you and I'm Tom"

"Tom Anderson?" 

"The one and only, do I know you?"

"No, but I know your brother Tony'

"Really? how?"

"Well I know of him, I don't really talk to him and you guys are popular."

"I'm not popular like my brother"

"I can tell, he's a player and you don't seem like it"

"Yeah I'm the nerdy one in our family"

"Your funny, I like that, well I gotta go its almost our curfew"

"Yeah me too, I'll see you around Julia"

I turned around and saw Kathy, she asked me what I was doing by her room and I told her that I helped Julia hold her stuff.

"That's so nice of you, Julia's my roommater, maybe we can all hang out sometime"

"Yeah that would be great" I told her while I was walking to my dorm.

That night I fell asleep thinking about Julia. I didn't know why but I felt a connection with her.
