Characters Part 2:
(I have too many characters, sigh)
Calie’s Parents:
Calie’s parents actually don’t get a lot of screen time, mostly because they are boring. Calie has a good relationship with them.
I really like the relationship that Calie’s dad has with Derek, it’s not the typical I hate the guy my daughter is “kind of” dating.
Calie is often jealous of their relationship and comments on how it is weird that they are friends.
Derek is a guy that gets along with people well, especially adult. I really like Calie’s dad and Derek’s relationship, I think it’s funny how much trust there is there, but I think Calie’s dad just knows Derek is a great guy, and will take care of his daughter.
We get to see the fact that Derek really likes Calie’s parents because they are around a lot more than his parents, and is a bit envious of this.
Alex and David:
They are a lot alike, David is a bit more outgoing though, I based this on their older siblings, it makes sense Alex would be shy and David would be the more outgoing, but I think the fact is more likely to stay in his room than play sports makes his less like Derek.
Alex and David being friends is a great plot device for the story, excuse to give Calie and Derek more face time. Calie and Alex have the typical you’re annoying, we don’t get along, don’t go in my room brother sister relationship. Derek and David have a similar relationship but I think Derek respects his brother a bit more and they get a long more.
I based these relanships after me and my brother, then Derek’s and his brother over a brother brother relationship.
Mrs. Werst:
Don’t you dare call her Darcy.
Mrs. Werst is quite a character, based on those uptight politician women that might be stereotypical a bit, she also another person Calie instantly doesn’t like.
She does care for her family but she really into her job so I think it comes off that she is more about her career.
Her and Derek are a lot alike but also very different, Derek often doesn’t like his mom, but I actually think it’s more of running joke he has with himself that no one else gets.
Mr. Werst:
Derek’s dad is the typical cool dad; he gets his son more than Mrs. Werst. He’s also very likable we see that Calie likes him when they first meet. He travels a lot, which he just a part of his job.
Jeff:
Jeff’s fun to write, he’s a guy’s guy. He wants to be a player but fails miserably at times. He’s a really good friend to Derek, though; they have this bro-romance thing no one can understand.
He’s so different from Derek when it comes to girls, whereas Derek isn’t too interested, unless it’s girl he really likes, Jeff will hit on anyone.
He has this big crush on Rachel from forever, I think it’s cute, Rachel doesn’t. He thinks that if he asks her out again and again she will eventually say yes, but she isn’t into it.
Jeff also thinks guys and girls can’t be friends, I know a lot of guys that think this, and maybe there is some truth to it, so Jeff is really suspicious when Derek and Calie are suddenly good friends, and rightfully so, he is more observant than his nonobservant friend Derek.
Sam:
I love Sam, he’s a sweetheart. He’s a typical nice guy. He’s a bit shy, but he’ll be nice to everyone. Him and Quinn are good match on paper, but they are probably too unlike.
