"Finally! Senior year!" Taylor said, while getting out of the car.

I quickly grabbed my bag and shut the car door.

We both made our way to the front of the school. You could feel excitement and nerves as everyone scrambled to get to where they needed to go.

"It sucks we only have two classes together" she pouted.

"Yeah, but at least we have the same lunch" I replied.

As we got in the school I took a right and went up the stairs to my locker. Taylor followed me, hers wasn't far from mine. She leaned up against the locker next to mine sighing.

"What's up" I asked.

"Oh nothing, just admiring how beautiful Matt looks today" she said.

I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help looking over my shoulder at the boy she was talking about. He was a couple feet away from us. His tall figure stood out over everyone else's. I knew he had spent most of the summer outside, I saw him a couple times from my bedroom window. His usually dirty blonde hair was now a bit lighter and he had a slight tan. His shoulders and arms seemed a lot bigger as well, it was hard not to notice how his white t-shirt made his muscles pop out. He wasn't facing them but Ellie knew every detail of his face. All the way from his blue eyes to the faint scar he had right below his bottom lip. He got that the day he learned how to ride his bike. Everything was going fine until he reached the corner of the street. I guess he hadn't really learned how to turn corners, so he ran straight into a fence. He was trying to be a big boy and not cry but I knew he was in pain. I ran into my house and brought back two grape outter pops. He told me, "Ellie you always know how to make things better."

Standing here, looking at him I really did wish I knew how I could have made things better. Maybe if I would have tried harder things would still be the same and Matt would still be my friend.

"Okay stop staring" Taylor said, making me turn my attention back on her "I mean it's not like you don't get to see him enough. He does live across the street from you."

"I wasn't staring, and I know but it's not like I spend every minute of my day looking through the window trying to catch a glimpse of him" I told her, even though deep down I knew sometimes I did. But I'm not going to admit that to Taylor.

"Yeah... sure" she replied, "anyways the bell's about to ring I'll see you in 3rd period" she turned and walked away. Her straight blonde hair swaying. She stopped and said hi to a couple people. That's the one thing I envyed about her. She was so outgoing, never afraid to speak up. I'm more quiet and shy. I've never been one to start conflicts. It's not that I don't know how to stand up for myself, I just try not to get in other people's business.

I turn back to my locker and look at myself through the small mirror. My black wavy hair makes my green eyes stand out. My skin isn't pale but it's not gorgeously tan. I have a small stud on my nose. My dad finally gave me permission to get my nose pierced, I've been wanting it since I turned sixteen.

I hear the first warning bell. I close my locker and make my way down the hall. I see Matt heading my direction and for a split second his eyes land on me but then he quickly looks past me and shouts for one of his friends to wait for him. It doesn't surprise me, I've gotten use to him acting like I don't exist. So I continue down the hall thinking to myself that this is my last year and then I will finally be able to leave every painful memory behind.

________________________________

So this is just a little bit of what the story will be about.

Ellie and Matt use to be the best of friends but eventually Matt began to distance himself from Ellie, she doesn't know why. She went through some tough things after they stopped being friends (you'll learn about them later on) and with this being her last year she is ready to finish and move on. But this year things start to change. Maybe her and Matt will finally become friends again..or maybe they'll realize they want something more.
