The next morning school was boring as ever for Peter. He paid attention to all his classes, he did his class work, and he answered questions when a teacher called on him, but he felt empty, like he was a shell.

At the end of the day he called Happy telling him that he would appreciate a ride to the Avengers Facility instead of disappearing to do Spider Man things like usual.

Ned had tried to spark a conversation with Peter all day but most of them were nothing but Peter answering with one word while Ned talked about whatever popped in his head.

Just as Happy pulled up into the school's parking lot Peter heard a familiar voice shout at him from behind making him die a little more on the outside.

"Hey! What's up Penis Parker?" Flash yelled from behind him as he put a hand on his shoulder.

"I'm really not in the mood for this today. Why don't you go pick on some kids on the football team for once?"

"In the mood for what, Parker?" Flash asked with fake innocence as his hand tightened Peter's shoulder.

"Is there a problem here?" Happy asked from inside the car. Flash's head immediately snapped to the grown voice.

"Of course not. I was just telling my good friend Peter that I was sorry about his aunt. See you later." And just like that Flash was gone. It was times like these that he lived up to his nickname

Peter simply rolled his eyes as he made his way to the back seat of Happy's car. He let out a loud sigh before closing the door and resting his head on the window.

"Who was that kid?" Happy asked when they were a few miles away.

"He's no one. Just a jerk that thinks it funny to pick on people." Happy could tell they Peter didn't really like talking about the subject and decided to drop it for now.

The rest of the ride was completely silent. Normally Happy wouldn't have minded but today he could just feel like something was off. He would have done just about anything to spark a conversation with Peter.

"How was school?" He asked while keeping his eyes on the road. He glanced back at Peter every now and then through the review mirror.

"Fine."

"That tone doesn't match one of a person who had a fine day at school." He commented while glancing back at Peter's face to gauge a reaction. He didn't even move from his place at the window.

"Well, how amazing can high school really get?" As much as Happy wanted to throw the sass back in Peter's face he couldn't deny that high school was pretty trashy.

Deciding that Peter wasn't in any mood to talk, Happy let the conversation drop for good. The rest of the ride to the Avenger's Facility was dead quite.

The moment the car came to a complete stop Peter was out of the car running to his new room with the great view of the lake.

Happy let out a small sigh when Peter bailed out while slamming the door shut. He knew this was going to be hard for him but him and Tony were making plans.

Peter's room was quite when he walked through the door. Nothing but the sound of the celling fan could be heard.

Outside the room the lake water lapped the bank due to the slight breeze. The flag by Steve's shield waved in the wind.

But Peter wasn't looking at the flag, or the memorial, or the lake. He wasn't looking at any of the scenery around his amazing new room. He wasn't setting up his new room either. He was simply lying on his bed laying face up, staring out the celling.

He felt empty. Like nothing at this current moment mattered. Like aliens could try to take over the world like every science fiction movie ever and he probably wouldn't care.

With a loud sigh Peter crawled off the bed to his backpack that he discarded on the floor seconds after entering his room. His goal was to get done with the little bit of schoolwork he had left but he also had no motivation.

After several hours and barely getting anything done Peter decided to call it quits for the night. The work that he had managed to get done was probably wrong anyway so continuing to work would just worsen his work in the end anyway.

The sun was no longer out when he looked up from his schoolbook. Instead the moon was hanging up high in the sky. There were barely any clouds in the sky tonight. The moon was shinning beautifully off the water and reflexing on Steve's shield.

Peter stared vacantly out the window, as if he was waiting for something to happen. But nothing did. He just sat there and he waited.

A few hours later Peter was getting restless. He felt like there was something that he should be doing but he couldn't quite tell what.

He soon gave up on waiting though; instead he decided it was time he did something.

He might not have been able to save May, but there were still plenty of people just like her that needed saving that he could help. He just needed to find them first.

Without a second thought he leapt from his bed, put on his suit, and jumped out the window.
