"You saw it" Nancy muttered. Yeonwoo was surprised, even tho Nancy was downcast, her voice was still angelic. But guilt was bothering her.

"I did. I'm badly sorry" She replied. They were in the school roof top. Nancy needed to talk to her in private, and the locker room would lead to some misunderstandings. Yeonwoo suggested the place to talk, so Nancy just followed.

"Now that you saw it..." Nancy handed her a device. A device that looks exactly like an iPhone, but without the apple logo. And it looked so expensive.

"I have the rarest and still an unnamed disease. What you saw which was attached to my chest was a pace maker. It helps regulate my heart rate and tells me how many beats I have remaining " Yeonwoo nodded, still feeling deplorable at everything she just knew.

"Officially, a weak heart muscle makes the heartbeat irregular. It's in the same category as cardiomyopathy. It's a strange disease that only happens to one in a million people. The amount of times a person's heart beats in their lifetime is decided when they are born. But a person who has this illness has less heartbeats than everyone else" Yeonwoo was giving off a guilty and bothered aura. She felt so miserable for Nancy, she doesn't want her to die until she's old. Probably around 90.

"Now, hold up that device up to my chest. It'll scan, it's connected at what's plastered on my chest. Take a look" Nancy instructs. Yeonwoo did as she was told, and her eyes went wide and gasped. She couldn't believe what was left for a pretty girl like Nancy.

The screen showed Nancy's full name, her heart rate beside her profile picture and below the heart rate was the numbers.

"That is.....the amount of heartbeats that I have left. If you have the personal app and your ID, we can check your own heart" Yeonwoo shook her head, as if she doesn't ever want to even know.

"There's about 220 million heartbeats left. You might think there's still a lot, but in 6 to 7 years.......my heart will stop beating" Nancy tried to say the last words in a circuitous way, but she couldn't. Whatever she says, it'll simply mean she'll die.

"There are more treatment options, but they are expensive. If my heart rate is elevated, my life span will shorten. That's why I'm prohibited from doing strenuous exercises" Nancy adds, staring back at Yeonwoo's eyes.

"Why are you talking this out to me? I honestly wanted to get close to you to know and help you in any way possible" Yeonwoo finally replied as she returned Nancy the device. Nancy smiled and her gaze at Yeonwoo's eyes softened.

"I thought that if you knew about my condition, you'd choose to keep it a secret rather than tell others about me. At my previous school, it was uncomfortable because of the rumors about me. From the way you look, I would never think you're a bad person who'd spread rumors" Yeonwoo gave her a smile, and her face showed disappointment for Nancy's side.

"You had it rough, huh" Yeonwoo said.

"Not really, other than my short life span, everything is normal" Yeonwoo clenched her fists. She felt pity, Nancy using the word 'normal' after knowing she has a rare disease that makes her life span shorter than anyone else.

Yeonwoo had the urge to shout out her feelings about Nancy's condition, but Nancy opened her mouth before she could.

"But...in thruth... I want to get along with everyone else. I want to have fun like them. If things keep going on like these, I would prefer to live my life out with every second I have left" Nancy confesses with a gaze at the sunset, her smile sad but precious.

Yeonwoo's eyes went wide, every inch of her wanted to help Nancy with all her heart. No matter what happens, she can't afford to see Nancy with a frown ever again.
