"It wont be that bad" my closest friend Ashleigh said.
"yeah, right" I rolled my eyes.
We were talking about my mother, she had just been in a car crash causing her to be in a wheelchair for I dont even know how long as she had broken both of her legs and dislocated her hip.
"I have to drive everywhere now, Mum thinks I'll get it done fine but driving home, picking up Zac and Emma from school, taking him to soccer training, and her to cheer, then doing food shopping and everything else that mothers do..." I took a bite into my ham and tomato sandwich.
Ashleigh rolled her eyes and flicked her short blue hair out of her face. Blue hair really suited her. A year ago she decided she wanted colour, she said it was all her idea but I have a feeling it was reccomended by her boyfriend, Michael. He was always changing his hair colour, I think the longest he's gone with one colour is a month.
"well, I think you're overreacting, I have to take Kyle places too" Ash said referring to her 14 year old brother.
"yeah, but you're not doing it everyday for the next six months." I pointed out.
"well it's not like anyone in our lame ass school has any killer parties that you'll be missing out on" she winked at me.
I laughed "yeah, you're right."
We went to a public school, it was pretty strict on uniform and stuff, but the teachers don't really care about piercings and coloured hair. I have 5 piercings altogether, 4 in both of my ears and one in my bellybutton. Ashleigh has 8. 6 in both of her ears, one in her nose and another on her bellybutton, we got that one done together. It hurt like hell.
"hey babe" Michael sat down on our table in the cafeteria and kissed Ashleigh. "hey Soph" he said to me, I smiled.
"you okay?" he asked.
I shrugged.
"she's just bummed because she has to drive Zac and Emma around because... Well you know why"
"ah yeah, sucks" Michael said looking at me "but hey, atleast you can get out of the house"
I smiled and nodded.
"Nice hair, babe" Ashleigh said to Michael combing his hair with her ridiculously long nails.
Michael had yet again coloured his hair, a dark purple this time. Something new, which suited him.
He grinned at Ash and their noses touched. They were such a cute couple, and after the year that Ashleigh's had, I'm glad she found him he treats her like a princess. The only thing I don't like, is being a third wheel. But I have dealt with it for the past 14 months that they've been together.
The bell rung signalling the end of lunch. Michael and Ashleigh kissed one last time before he got up "what do you have now?" she asked him.
"band practise" he said walking off "cya after school"
Ash waved at him before turning to me "I can't wait to see his band perform in front of the school, they're so good!"
I nodded. It was true Michaels band had 3 other members, Luke, Ashton and Calum. They weren't very big but they always performed at school productions.
"do they have a name yet?" I asked.
Ash shook her head "nah, Michael said that if they got proper gigs they probably would, it makes sense to have a name, but I can see where he's coming from there's not really any point having a name for your band if all you're doing is performing in front of a school a few times a term."
We both got up from our table and walked to our lockers.
"yes, drama!" Ashleigh exclaimed.
"oh no, we're performing our play" I don't know why I picked drama this year, Ash made me.
"that's good!" She said.
I rolled my eyes, but smiled at her. I wish I had her confidence.
