Nenya stood at the gate leading into Cair Paravel watching the four Kings and Queen disappearing into the forest.
She had the strangest feeling, as though she wouldn't see them again. As though the goodbyes they had said a moment before were for longer than an afternoon.
She had hugged Susan and Lucy quickly, wishing them luck. Then Edmund had come out.
He had grabbed her hand and held it tightly, telling her he would be back by evening, and that he wanted to talk to her about something when he returned.
She had missed Peter coming out, and by the time Edmund had mounted his horse, Peter was already starting forward on his own horse.
The most she had been able to do was make eye contact, and somehow his eyes seemed to say the same thing Edmund's words had.
She had let the moment go, however, she had the whole afternoon to think through things, perhaps tonight she could sort her feelings for the Pevensie boys out.
Feelings were such a complicated thing, one moment she thought she understood them, the next she was lost and completely confused.
She would figure it out though, and Susan would help, she always helped.
It was all going to work out, she was sure of it.
So Nenya turned back to the palace, ready for an afternoon of waiting and thinking. Confident that her problems and confusion would be resolved by the time the sun set that night.
