Here I was walking into school a good fifteen minutes late. I knew that gym had started, i was gonna get an earful from Coach Baxter and the principal would scorn me about being late. Honestly the woman was anal about perfection and a down right bitch. I could say that seeing as i know her.

Principal Ella Bahati Mayflower. Mama Mayflower we called her at home. My sixty-five year old grandmother who didn't look a day over forty. God was on her side with the black girl magic. But he must've allowed Satan to take over when it came to making her . I eased in the doors. Apparently our school didn't think about safety seeing as we could easily walk through the double doors.

That was the easy part of getting in. I tip toed to the attendance office where the sweetest elderly woman you'll ever meet sat.

Jennifer Marge Black. Our reigning school secretary since 1965 when she was young. She now sat at ninety five years old and still had as much life as a kid. "Elle you know your grandmother will have a fit seeing you come in this late. Girl you know better why is you late on the first day of school?" I warmly smiled at her concern. She hated for the way my grandmother treated her staff and students. She was here when my grandma attended the school and was appalled by her obnoxious but what can she do, she was only the secretary.
