" Behind all your stories is always your mother's story,
because hers is where yours begins."

It was a bright sunday morning , Piku was prancing across the huge gallery of Kedambari Nevas with a duster in her hand. She was busy cleaning the imported artifacts that were gracing the already evident magnificence of the lobby. Mrs. Roy was peacefully sitting on a chair scrutinizing each step Piku took.

After a few moments passed by Kanishik entered the room. There was something peculiar about his appearance today. His hair looked normal , he was dressed up as usual. Today enmity lied in his expression. His face wasn't carrying that usual charming immature smile. His visage appeared stern and his expression was resolute. He looked at Mrs. Roy straight in the eye and said he is not going to apply for any medical college. It took a few minutes for this news to sink in but before Mrs. Roy could contemplate a reply. Kanishik with his determined expression made it clear that nothing she would say could change his mind. He said he would never deny the fact that his family supported him financially on every walk of life. He fully credited the fact that from the every beginning  they provided him with a headstart. He got his education from the best possible school and world class tutors . But that doesn't gives them a right to treat him like an investment at such crucial path of life. There was little in the field of medical that interested him. His passion was acting and 'dramatics' was the only field he could identify with.

Piku expected an explosion. An obsessive rant and cruel criticism from her maimsahib who often breathed fire at such situations. But today our story took an unexpected turn , Mrs. Roy's expression softened.
She calmly asked her son to sit down. She said when she was little she wanted be a magician. Simplistic tricks like taking out a rabbit from a hat were greeted by her with childish bouts of excitement. Dainty play of cards filled her with fascination , and often she use to pretend that the pencil in her hand was a magic wand capable of doing wonders. Her dreams were dismissed as mere figments of imagination by her family. No one took an interest in her ambition. Alas she was asked to concentrate on her studies, only later to be married against her will. Circumstances turned her bitter. She wanted her son to follow the right track from the very beginning , to break his heart was never her intention.

She still didn't consider acting as a sustainable profession. But nevertheless she didn't want to lose her son. she embraced Kanishik with a gentle hug and permitted him to follow his dreams.
