Chapter 01 - Sayuri

Hold back, you must resist...

The gun clicked. My breath was shaking, my mouth felt dry.

"Stop it, Sayuri we can talk." her hands locked around the gun and she tugged at it, but I didn't let go.

"You killed her, how could you?" tears swelled up in my eyes.

If somebody would have told me about this moment a year ago, I would have cried, laughed, screamed or pushed them away..

I was a non-bender, wasn't I? My little sister was fine...

"It was necessary, she was a nuisance." I shook my head

"You are a monster, I hope you know that." Ameratsu smiled and flicked her black hair

"I'm not a monster, I'm an angel, I'm just saving her from Republic City. You wanted to take her to that devil's hole." I clenched my teeth

"She was such a happy person." I paused "She had dreams, she wanted to live!" I heaved, the air was blocked from entering my lungs, all my muscles were strained.

Ameratsu sighed and turned to leave "She wanted you to live, that was her dream. She was dying, Sayuri."

"Then why didn't you leave her, her last days or months of life?" my voice was trembling, a lump formed in my throat.

"A waste for our resources, by the way, I have better things to do than train you now." her red, thick lips curled into a smile. "I'm getting married to your dear father."

She just left me there on my knees, beside the body of my little sister. The machines that always assured me that Seiko would survive. The soft beeping no longer was there. Ameratsu pulled the plug.

It all started when I was 10 years old, Amon appeared. A man who was trying to destroy the world of the benders. Who wished for revenge and hid behind a mask.

My father was one of his biggest supporters.

When I turned 5, he found out that my mother was a bender and killed her. Even if he told me it was a group of earth benders, I didn't believe him. I just couldn't, no matter how many pictures I saw of her, covered by stones and earth...

My father was rich, very rich. We owned an island, so stunning that I never wished to leave. Golden peacocks ran around on the fields. Giant white tigers and polar bear dogs also lived here. Even dragons resided in the deep mountains.

Anyway, when I turned 10, a man came to me, he was supposed to find out if I was a bender...

It was spring and I was very sick, at least my father seemed worried.

"No matter if she is my daughter or not, if she has the filthy blood of a bender, I will kill her!" The words entered one and left the other ear.

My brain couldn't process this information.

I rushed back into my bedroom. My heart pounded against my rib cage. I hid under my cover, scared for my life and held my breath.

I heard the door open behind me and heavy steps land on the floor.

"Hello." an old man sat in front of me. He pressed his fingers against my forehead. I watched as his face fell.

My throat felt extremely itchy and I felt like choking, but I resisted.

"Dear, I have to tell you something." he placed his hands on my shoulders, they were cold. "don't tell a soul, but you are a water bender." my eyes widened and I took a step back. The cough came out too fast, a spurt of mucus splattered over the ground.

My body started to shake "No." I shook my head furiously as my legs gave in. "I don't want to die." tears swelled up and fell over my eye line like a waterfall.

He nodded "You won't, as long as you don't tell anyone, this is our secret alright?" I nodded back, wiping my snot away, which dribbled from my nose.

I don't know why he helped me, but I am forever in his favor, even if he's dead. Sadly people found out that he lied because another child started to bend and they killed the friendly, old man.

"I should have known, my precious darling wasn't carrying such a peasants sin. You and I, we will be Amon's right hand in future, I promise." his raging red eyes were a contrast to my blue ones.

He stroked my hair "You see, I was slightly worried because of your hair, it's strange." he sneered

"But mummy said that strange can also be good." his eyes burnt and he grabbed a fist full of my hair but let it go again when I shrieked

"Well, mummy was not only wrong, she's dead, please understand that, Sayuri." he saw my probably devastated expression and grumbled something.

He sighed and hugged me "The reason why we called you little Lily was because it was your mothers favourite flower." he smiled "Mine too." he whispered.

Even if that should have made me happy, I felt sick. My heart was empty. I no longer felt anything, and I can't explain why.

I no longer loved my father or anything but my sister and my pets. No human ever got through to me but Seiko, my little, sweet Seiko who now was lying dead in my shaky arms.

But what confuses me even more is why I didn't pull the trigger or why I cried weeks after Seiko's death....
