Chapter 3: Thinking 'Bout You
The bell rang. Lunchtime, finally. I left the Chemistry lab with Mabel and we looked for the other girls, who were probably in the cafeteria. We walked there and found Mylène, who waved at us from the table when I saw her. I sat next to her and Mabel sat in front of us, next to Elena.
"How was the class you took after French? Boring and lonely cuz you were without me?" She asked, biting an apple.
"I actually had Physics with Andrew," I said, biting my own apple.
"And how was it? Don't tell me you didn't say a word to him during the whole class!" I didn't even answer. She had guessed the answer without me saying a word to her... just as I didn't say a word to Andrew. "Why am I even surprised?" She rolled her eyes.
"You know I'm shy next to boys. Especially when they look like that."
"I do, but you gotta change it. Life won't happen if you don't give it a chance." Her eyes moved from my face to something behind me. I turned my head, it was Andrew. "You can thank me later."
"What are you doing?" I said, trying to catch her attention. Too late, she had already stood up and walked towards him. After a few seconds of talking to him, she turned back and he came with her.
"Girls, Thomas, this is Andrew, our new classmate. I asked him to join us today, so treat him nicely," she said before she sat on my left, leaving the right empty for him to sit. Which he did.
A smell of lavender invaded my nostrils when he did so. It was intoxicating in the best possible way.
"So, Andrew, right?" Elena said. He nodded, smirking. "What brings you to Guelph?"
"My mother's Canadian and she decided to spend some time with the Canadian part of our family, so my father found a job in Toronto and we moved," he explained.
"And what does your father do?" Elena asked.
"He's a software engineer. He works for Ubisoft Toronto, now. It's a game developer."
Elena seemed very interested in everything that he said, different from Mabel, who didn't let go of her cell phone. Texting that guy from Pittsburgh, I guess.
"That's so cool," I said. He turned to me.
"It's even cooler when you get to play their demos before anybody else. What does your family do?" Out of the four people seated at the table, he chose me to talk to.
"My mother is part of the city council and my father's a lawyer," I said, not taking my eyes away from his for a single second.
"OH MY GOD, girls!" Mylène said, dropping her phone dramatically on the table. We all looked at her.
"What happened?" Mabel asked.
"Restroom. NOW!" She got up and motioned for Mabel and Elena to follow her. Elena, always so gentle, didn't mind it, but Mabel sighed loudly, ultimately obeying, as well. Mylène winked at me before leaving with them, and I immediately recognized that scene as part of her plan to make me talk to Andrew.
"Are they going to be fine?" He asked, making an adorably confused face.
"Yeah, don't worry, it happens every time," I said as we watched them leave the cafeteria.
"So, what do you like doing in your free time?" He asked. I'm really glad he started our conversations because I could never.
"I like watching series, reading, listening to music..."
"Really? Who is your favourite artist?" I knew the answer.
"I've been listening to Dua Lipa a lot lately" I answered.
