Chapter 29: Flying Away
The big day had finally come. My flight was scheduled for 12 a.m., so, in three hours, I was going to leave Guelph behind and fly into the future.
I woke up with Lupi right beside my bed, as he had been doing during that past week. He was acting very unlike him: he'd hardly been leaving my side and instead spent as much time as possible with me.
I took a quick shower and went downstairs to have breakfast.
When I got to the kitchen, though, there wasn't anybody there. I looked around for something and found a note on the fridge.
"Your father and I went to the store to buy you another bag. In case you're wondering what happened to yours, check the trash can in the front yard."
I walked out of the house, and Lupi went with me. I grabbed the bag and lifted it. It was torn and bitten.
I wonder who could've done that.
I turned around and Lupi barked.
I squatted next to him. "I know you don't want me to go, but you gotta understand it's what's best for me." He whined and I leaned my head against his. "I love you, okay? Don't you ever forget that. I'll come back someday and I'll take you for a walk in the park just as you like, but for now, I must go and I'd appreciate it if you don't eat my next bag, okay?"
Usually, when he understood what I said, he barked, but that time he showed no reactions at all, almost as if he was ignoring me. Which he probably was.
I shrugged and went back to the kitchen, where I had a cup of apple tea, made from a recipe that Andrew had given me a few days earlier, and a slice of chocolate cake made by the best cook I know — my mother.
After that, I went back to my bedroom to pack the stuff I was going to take with me.
I had already packed my clothes and electronics, but there were still some portraits, CDs, DVDs and other stuff that I'd like to take with me.
I went to the shelf and grabbed my entire collection of CDs, my DVD boxes and a few books, as well. I tossed them all on my bed and sighed.
"I hope they bring a big enough bag for these things."
Right when I finished saying that, I heard the door opening and soon my mom was in my bedroom.
"Good morning," I said. "I finished selecting my things to pack. I just need the bag now."
My mother handed it to me. A large black bag that looked almost exactly the same as my other one.
"Do you think it'll do?" She asked.
"It has to."
She shrugged. "You don't have to take them all with you, anyway, you can leave some things behind."
"Leave my entire CD collection behind? No, thanks, I worked way too hard for them."
"I'm not buying you another bag. Now hurry up or we might be late," she said, leaving.
I rolled my eyes, how dramatic.
I opened my bag and placed things by their order of importance to me. The least important things could be left behind, although it would hurt me a lot to do so.
Surprisingly, I managed to put most of the things I'd like to fit, including my entire CD collection, some three or four DVDs and a few books, including my all-time favourite, Around the World in Eighty Day.
