Chapter 2: The Ugly Duckling
Reo got to school at the same time he usually did. He made his way through the entrance, dodging the cliques huddled there.
As he past the first hall, Akira spotted him.
His chest filled up with a warm feeling, and he jumped after him.
Akira followed Reo, unnoticed by him, all the way to their class room.
Yuri blinked a few times, then rubbed her eyes.
“What?” Reo asked, “Surprised I haven’t sent anyone to the nurses office yet?”
Yuri shook her head and pointed behind him.
Reo turned around and jumped back in shock.
“Ah, Kioshi. It’s just you,” he sighed, holding his chest, “Nearly gave me a heart attack,”
Akira stared up at Reo thoughtfully, his blue eyes brighter than they had been.
“Er, morning then,”
Akira blinked and bowed, “Good morning Akihiko-san,”
(Awkward stick figure moment)
Yuri scooted over to Reo, “What did you do to him?”
“Nothing, I don’t think,”
“Oi! Reo!”
Reo and Yuri looked up to see Hakai and Yuki walking towards them.
“Well done Reo,” Hakai said, “You’ve tamed a vicious beast,”
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“Kioshi-kun,” Hakai put a hand on Akira’s head.
He flinched and bolted forward in fear, hiding behind Reo.
Hakai blinked, then laughed, “He’s been following behind you all the way here like a baby duckling. It was kind of cute,”
Reo looked over his shoulder at the shorter boy, who was gripping the back of his shirt and looking at Hakai like he was the devil.
Reo looked back at Hakai, “He was? For how long?”
“Since you got past the doors. I was going to ask him if he wanted to join a club, and I saw him jump after you like a love sick puppy,” he chuckled, “It was cute. But it kind of scared some people. Mostly teachers,”
Reo held back an embarrassed blush.
“Hmph, can’t imagine why,”
Akira watched the three people from behind Reo.
He said yesterday that he got angry easily, so why was he talking to these people so care freely? Especially that girl. What was her relation with Reo?
Akira glared at her, and she stared back.
“Um, I don’t think your little duckling likes me,” Yuri said uneasily.
Reo sighed, “He’s not a duck, and he doesn’t seem to like anyone,”
“He seems to like you,” Yuki pointed out, earning a cold stare.
Reo rubbed his hair, “I wonder if that’s from yesterday?”
“What-?”
The bell rang and Hakai spun on his heel, suddenly all business.
Yuki followed him to the front of the class and sat down.
Yuri sat next to Hugh in their assigned two seat tables.
