The man paced in front of the door nervously, biting his thumbnail.

Soon the cries of a newborn baby could be heard.

There was the sound of hurried footsteps and worried voices barely audible through the maple door.

Soon the footsteps stopped, and the doctor opened the door, a pained expression on his face.

The man burst past him into the room, fearing the worst, but his wife was safely tucked under the covers.

He sighed, “What’s wrong?”

“There were two,” the doctor said, “One didn’t make it,”

He motioned to two bundles with the nurses.

One started to move and the nurse screamed.

She dropped the bundle and it started wailing.

“It’s alive!” she screamed.

“What? That’s not possible,” the doctor said, his face screwed up in fear.

He walked over and picked up the baby, “It is……,”

The man walked over, “So….they both survived?”

The doctor nodded slowly and handed the man the bundle.

The man pushed the blanket away from the baby’s face.

“He’s so pale,”

“We thought he was dead. He came out dead,” the doctor said, confused.

“How is the other one?”

“Healthy,” a nurse said.

The man nodded, “Good,”

He looked over to his sleeping wife, then back at the child in his arms.

The doctor turned away and looked out the window, “It seems as if his prediction was spot on. Things are about to shake up,”

Chapter 1

15 year old Keiji Homura walked down the hallway, his backpack swung over his shoulder.

People leaned towards each other and whispered as he passed by.

He had no friends, a straight A report card, and was the second son of the powerful Homura family.

Or so everyone thought.

What people didn’t know, was that he had a twin brother, Seiji. He had been born dead, and was always sick, so he was kept home.

The Homura family feared if the outside world found out about him, they would respect them less.

It seemed like Keiji was the only one who truly cared about the timid boy. He had always been there to protect him, and Seiji always followed behind him like a baby duckling.

Both boys had silver hair, a trademark for the Homura family, and rare, violet eyes. Seiji’s eyes, however, changed color. Sometimes they were violet, but they had a tendency to change into silver, green, or blue.

Doctors said it was from his unsteady health.

Keiji stopped in front of his locker and opened it. Unlike most kids, he had no pictures of his family in his locker. His father said he was to royal for such trivial things, and there would be chaos if people saw Seiji.
