Chapter 3: Scars
Ryu stared. Akio was standing across from his locker, pulling a shirt on.
Akio smirked, “If you keep staring at me like that someone might think you’re in love,”
“Ehhhh????!!!” Ryu whipped around, “I-I was just surprised! I didn’t know you were in the same P.E. class as me,”
Akio smiled, “Well, I’m happy. I get to see you more,”
Ryu blushed as he pulled his clothes out.
He pulled his gym shorts on and grabbed a shirt.
He pulled his other shirt on and Akio’s smile disappeared.
“What are those scars?”
Ryu froze and felt the scars on his left shoulder and back, “Th-these scars……are from…..when I didn’t take my medicine,” he mumbled.
“And your wrists?”
“S-same thing,” Ryu said quietly.
Akio watched him with sad eyes. He stood up and tipped Ryu’s chin up so he was looking in his eyes.
“Did you do it to yourself?”
Ryu blinked and averted his eyes, “I……I…..,”
He backed up to the lockers, “I’m…..sorry…..I can’t control what I do,” he hugged himself, “A lot of the time I just end up hurting someone else, b-but sometimes I can h-hold back, and others I end up h-hurting myself,”
Akio held up his hand, “Like with this?”
Ryu nodded, “I-I knew I had hurt someone, a-and I got mad at myself,”
Akio cupped Ryu’s cheek, “I understand. Can you promise me something?”
“Wh-what?”
“If you feel like you’re about to slip away, call me, or text me. Please?”
Ryu blinked, and nodded, “I…..promise,”
Akio smiled and stepped back, “Hurry and get dressed,”
Ryu blushed and pulled his shirt on.
P.E. dragged on endlessly. The only reason Ryu got through it was Akio.
After they got dressed in their regular clothes, Ryu followed Akio down the hall.
“Do you like reading?” Akio asked.
“Ah, yes, I do,” Ryu nodded.
“Then would you like to go to the school’s library with me right now? It’s a free period,”
“Ah, um, sure,”
“I hope you don’t mind. Misaki will be there,”
“Your cousin?”
“That’s right,”
“Th-then it’s fine,”
Akio smiled, “I’m glad. Let’s go,”
Misaki was standing at the table with books stacked up, “What should I read first?”
“Misaki, I’m here,” Akio said.
Misaki spun around, “Akioooo!!! <3”
She saw Ryu and blinked, “Nn? Akio, this is…?”
