Chapter 1

I watched as the boy shorter than me shoved an old necklace into my hands.

“If you give me that, I have to give you this,” he jumped into my arms, “Don’t ever forget me!”

I wrapped my arms around him, a smile on my face, “I swear,”

That was almost ten years ago in my old town, the one my family and I are moving back to.

My name is Kohaku Hideki. I have black hair and eyes. I am the second son of the Hideki family. Before me is my brother Jun Hideki, who’s studying in America, I’ve only met him once. After me is my little brother Koen Hideki, and my baby sister Riko Hideki.

My father, Mashiro Hideki, is the head of a very large prosperous company in Japan.

Which is why we moved in the first place.

We’re moving back because my father just learned that his closest friend had been killed in a robbery gone wrong. Terribly wrong.

I didn’t care about them though. He and his wife died, they’re dead, get over it. The only one I cared about was Hikaru Kazuhiko, my father’s friend’s only son.

We had grown up together, and I had always thought of him as my best, closest friend.

Only we haven’t seen each other since we were nine.

When I left, I gave him a gold charm bracelet, so he’d remember me, and he gave me an old brass chained necklace with a plain metal pendant dangling from it. The only real meaning it had was Hikaru, and that was enough for me.

I really wanted to see him. I had to see him.

The only problem was he was in a crazy home.

Yup. After his parents were brutally murdered, he went crazy, screaming like a lunatic and not letting anyone get near him.

Did I care? No fucking way. He’s still my best friend.

Thinking about it is just making me feel worse though.

Right now I was in the car, tapping the door nervously as my father drove into the parking lot.

He, my mother, and I got out of the car and walked towards the facility.

It smelt sick.

The man at the front had my father and mother sign a bunch of papers, all the while I was pacing back and forth, biting my nails.

Poor Hikaru. Knowing him he’s probably terrified.

He’d been in the facility for about two and a half months now, and I didn’t need to beg my father to take responsibility of him.

The man led us down several hallways and into a room.

He turned a light on and I walked up to a large window.

Inside was a room covered in pillows, some spots slightly stained with blood.

A group of doctors were inside, talking in a group and pointing at things on a clipboard.

In a corner of a room, farthest away from the doctors, huddled like a rabid animal, was Hikaru.

I was sure of it.

I could see his oddly red colored hair from here. I’ve always loved his hair, but right now it looked frizzy, over grown, and lifeless.

I put a hand on the window and leaned against it, my heart throbbing.

“What are those men doing?” my father asked the man we were with.

“They’re watching and observing him, trying to find a way to get him out of the room,”
