Instead of making more excuses as to why I haven't updated this book in almost a year, here's a Mother's Day chapter. Enjoy!
The morning sun slowly revealed its bright and warming rays onto the dormant kingdom of Jollywood. Most inhabitants were sound asleep in their beds, especially the Queen. Queen Delightful lay wrapped up in her bedsheets, snoring peacefully with a soft smile implanted onto her face. Unbeknownst to her, her dearly beloved husband no longer lay next to her, as he and their two and a half year old daughter, Princess Excellent, were preparing a large and plentiful breakfast for the Queen for Mother's Day.
When the royal Mother's Day breakfast was nearing completion, Princess Excellent quickly pulled King Starchbottom outside into the garden with her to pick out colourful and fragrant flowers for her mother. "Will mommy like these flowers?" She asked her father as they tread back towards the kitchen. King Starchbottom grinned warmly at her. "Of course! She'll absolutely love them. You're really good at picking out flowers!" Together, the two of them added the finishing touches to Queen Delightful's breakfast tray. Princess Excellent neatly placed the flowers into a ceramic pottery vase she had painted herself, while Starchy looped his hands around the handles, preparing himself for the difficult and slow journey back upstairs.
The sun began to shine through the transparent curtains, fully illuminating the Queen's face and gently waking her up. She stirred around in bed until she finally rose up, letting out a relieved yawn and arching her back forwards to stretch out any stiffness in her body. She opened her eyes to see her and Starchbottom's royal suite drenched in sunlight, her pupils adjusting to the sudden brightness as she rubbed the sleep away from the corners of her eyes. Queen Delightful then noticed the lack of a certain someone who always was there to wish her a good morning with a tender hug and a sweet kiss everyday. She once again scanned her room to at least get a clue of where her husband had gone.
Just as she was about to step out of bed, her bubbly daughter burst through the door and ran straight for her mother with a pink paper clutched in her hand. "Mommy! Mommy!" She yelled, jumping up and down beside the bed, wanting to get on top. "Sweetie Pie!" Queen Delightful lifted her up onto the bed with her, and hugged her tight. "Happy Mommy's Day!" The Princess exclaimed, pulling away from the hug to give her the homemade card. "Oh it's Mother's Day is it? I completely forgot!" She said with a giggle. "Open the card!" Excellent insisted, tugging at the edges of the paper. The Queen did just that, her heart instantly warming up once she saw what was inside.
In the card was a crayon drawing of the royal family including Sir Yipsalot and Squire Peckington in front of a lopsided castle. Written underneath the drawing, obviously by Starchbottom, were "HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!! LOVE, EXCELLENT AND DADDY!" Queen Delightful let a few rogue tears fall onto the bed, as she hugged her daughter extra close to her again. "Oh, Excellent, this is the best gift I have ever received. Thank you so much!" The Princess happily reciprocated her mama's love, wrapping her stubby arms around her shoulders.
After that heartfelt moment, the entranced Queen gazed at the card again. Of course it wasn't the best looking drawing, considering it WAS made by a toddler. But in Queen Delightful's eyes, it was the most beautiful drawing she had ever received, even more stunning than those paintings she keeps hung up on the wall in the hallways. "I love this drawing so much, Excellent! I'm going to have your daddy frame it so we can hang it up in here! Speaking of which, where is he?" Excellent looked towards the door, but saw that he was no longer behind her. "He's bringing up your breakfast to you!" Delightful's eyes twinkled more. "He is? I hope he's alright. Those stairs can be a little steep." "I'm okay, my Queen!"
Reassuring her was a familiar disembodied voice coming from the hallway. But Queen Delightful being her ditzy self, started questioning the voice, thinking Starchbottom had suddenly become a ghost, until he showed up in the doorway with the tray of food in his hands. "Starchy!" She excitedly clapped her hands together as he frolicked his way over to her, while keeping the tray in tact. As soon as he reached her bedside, he gave her a much needed passionate kiss on the lips, all the while Excellent stuck out her tongue out at them in disgust. "Happy Mother's Day, my love. Excellent and I got up early to make you an extra special breakfast!" The King gently sat the tray on her lap.
Served to her was a plate full of scrambled eggs and cheese sprinkled with black pepper and topped with a sprig of cilantro, with a side of three strips of perfectly crisp bacon and a pile of shredded golden hashed browns. Alongside the entrée was a bowl of ripened assorted fruits ranging from fresh cut melons to handpicked berries, and another plate stacked with flapjacks with syrup already coating the exterior and the butter steadily melting on top. Queen Delightful's mouth began to water just from witnessing such a site in front of her. But what caught her attention the most were the tiny bouquet of flowers that rested in the vase. Carefully taking one flower into her fingers and caressing its fragile petals, she put it up to her nose and inhaled it's delightful aroma.
King Starchbottom smiled, more than happy seeing that Queen Delightful was highly enjoying the start to her Mother's Day. Showing more proof that she was ecstatic about her morning so far, she pulled both him and Princess Excellent into a one arm hug. "Thank you so so so much, you guys! You both are my favourite people in this entire world! I will never ever stop loving you!" She kissed both of them on their cheeks, each happy to receive a loving kiss from her.
The royal family spent the rest of the day having a relaxing but fun filled Sunday. Especially after Queen Delightful and King Starchbottom put Princess Excellent to bed that night. Let's just say that the King had two surprises in bed for his wife, one was a shiny golden necklace, and the other one had both of them kissing and giggling all throughout the night. ( ͡~ ͜ʖ ͡° )
Happy Mother's Day to all my readers from the United States, Canada, Brazil, Australia, and New Zealand! If you're from the UK and Mexico, happy belated Mothering Sunday/(¡Feliz día de las madres!) If you're from elsewhere, I'm sorry I don't know when your Mother Day is/was. For me (or for my mother), we celebrate 2 Mother Days, the American and Haitian days (Haitian Mother's Day is not for another 2 weeks). Thank you for taking time out of your Sunday (or whatever day you discover this) to read this thing I wrote at 2 am of Mother's day morning. Now go spend some time with your mum, tell her how much you love her, or just hug her if you're not good at expressing emotions verbally.
